Re: Challenger weight

The last couple of posts have mostly answered my questions about the prototype chassis. I am a little more hopeful that the weight will be under control somewhat. I know that it won't be a lightweight but maybe it will be under 4000 pounds.
As far as a light stripper version goes, I just want to chance to get manual cloth seats, no nav system and no other luxury car options.

It would help if they had a stright axle insted of the IRS, and they could use some aluminum in place of steal in some places, but it will be hard to drop alot of weight.
I agree totally!! The new charger is about 4100,so I expect to see the challenger at at least 4000,which is kinda sad. I would love to see alot of carbon-fiber,but there goes the price then! I guess we'll have to wait and see! All I know is,the more weight that thing weighs, the more horsepower you'll need to not only move it,...but to compete with the 500hp competition, which is no joke! So they(dcx) has no choice but too dump in the 6.4L (500+hp) motor to stay competitive in their top model!

Re: Challenger weight

4100 is the limit with me , anymore and i'm staying away. I hope at least they consider offering some "upgrades" to reduce the weight of the car. at least by 100 pounds i'll gladly pay 1000 more to shave off 100 pounds.

Re: Challenger weight

This weight issue almost seems to be getting hefty ! I'm almost sure DCX/ The Dodge Boys/Gals know what their doing ! Some say 4000 or 4100 is the max they'll accept;fine ! how much does an A/C unit weigh ? To lighten the load, maybe just drive around with no more than 3 gallons of fuel: meaning how much does an extra 15 lbs of gas weigh ? Also, if the driver is say on a local football team, he might weigh ,say 250 lbs ! now if he takes 3 of his buddies /teamates to the game or to practice and they each weight 250 lbs [ maybe more or perhaps less] :that right there will be adding another 1000 pounds ! If one of them has a little boy /girl , that's another 100 lbs. If going to a picnic throw in a 50 lb sack of potatoes [ and that's if they're only having a " light lunch " ] ...Well add up those numbers and now the total comes to around 5200 + lbs .

I know it's wishfill thinking on my part but I sure would love to see something around 3600 lbs.......Now that with the 425 HP would give alot of cars a run for there money

Yea,then the 6.1 would work with the lighter weight, but the way it looks at 4000lbs.,...they better drop in at least the 6.4l (500 +hp) hemi in the top srt-8 model,to compete with the 500 hp competition!!They would be foolish not too!

Yeah as it stands now it will take the 6.1 to stay with a GT mustang if it's 4000 lbs+.......Because the GT mustang is only 3500+ lbs.....

Re: Challenger weight

I seem to remember seeing that the GT weighed about 3600-3700 pounds, I think. I am probably wrong though. Anyway, a 6.1l Challenger ought to be much faster I would think. The only problem with that is no one knows what a 2008 GT will have under the hood for sure. It's hard to bench race with a car that is a model year or two out.

Re: Challenger weight

The 2006 Ford GT ,with a cost of approx. $153,000, weighs 3485 lbs and has a 5.4 l /330 engine that purportedly puts out 550 hp ! Production will cease this year ; after just two model years and Ford will /is now concentrating on the Ford Shelby GT500 !
