Chrysler Up For Sale !!!!!!!!

As most of you have heard DCX has now officially announced that it wants to sell /unload The Chrysler Group / Chrysler/Dodge: so I thought this thread would keep all aprised as to the progress and to add the daily snipits or Breaking News ! !! Now just today I read that : Kerkorian Offers $4.5 Billion for Chrysler !
By MICHELINE MAYNARD
Published: April 6, 2007
The Tracinda Corporation, the investment arm of Kirk Kerkorian, the billionaire investor, offered today to pay $4.5 billion in cash to buy the Chrysler Group, 12 years to the month after an earlier attempt by Mr. Kerkorian to buy the company, which was instead acquired later by Daimler-Benz of Germany.

Letters to DaimlerChrysler

Mr. Kerkorian, who was once Chrysler’s biggest shareholder, disclosed his offer in a news release that came a day after Dieter Zetsche, the chief executive of DaimlerChrysler, acknowledged that the American carmaker it owns was for sale.
“Tracinda believes by taking a long-term approach to solving Chrysler’s problems, it can become a robust and lasting stand-alone entity,” the company said. Here's the whole story ; http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/06/bu...oo&emc=rss P.S -- I just clicked on ' Letters to DiamlerChrysler' and read the two pieces; one from a so-called advisor to Tracinda and I am not impressed at all with the wording as well as the second letter to DCX...cannot even read the signature and the guy doesn't even have the ?? to type his name below as is customary Professional /business ethics [ not that I'm a pro at this stuff; but please.] .. Oh, y-ahhh yesterday I saw Bobby Lutz ;VP of GM on TV while all DCX vehicles clip playing in background .. but no real substance to that interview either !! Also, I'm very suspicious of the Blackstone group and the other private investment groups that are wanting to raise huge sums of $$$ by offering IPOs = money from people like us or the public !!!

Re: Chrysler Up For Sale !!!!!!!!

Thanks for the post. We should try to keep this news up to date. I hope the Challenger is past the point where they could pull the plug on it.

Ehh ,let's hope not !Yah, maybe a Challenger S[helby ]E .We'll just have Lee be the New Chrysler Corporation pitchmon !! As for Shelby, the Viper seems to be tweaking right along although I believe something should be done about the dangerously h-o-t situation by the doors sills from the exhaust pipes/routing there . Couldn't some type of ...say like a double insulated ceramic /nomex/kevlar heat protection be designed ?

Re: Chrysler Up For Sale !!!!!!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing Chrysler set free from Diamler, but I don't think bringing Bob Lutz back would do much for Chrysler. If I recall correctly, Lutz had a lot to do with the "merger of equals" that saw Chrysler changed from a profitable company into a struggling division of DiamlerChrysler. He is an auto enthusiast, though, so rehiring him might not be as bad as I think.

Yeah, it just might be a good idea ; even into a private corp..not have to answer to stockholders, some of whom can or want to control something ! Iococca was on today, talking about his book about Where have all the Leaders gone ? He's 82,is spunky but says at his age cannot run a new Chrysler Corporation [ but I think he wouldn't turn down an opportunity to do a TV commercial] ?I just noticed this tonight : Iacocca: 'They're throwing us to the curb' :Former Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortu...5493/index.htm
