Thumbs up Classic Edition R/T

The following information was posted on redletterdodge:

"The Classic Edition R/T will be released January or so, and will feature the usual R/T equipment, plus 20″ Fully Polished Heritage Wheels(Very much like a Cragar S/S), Black Dual Side Stripes(Like a ‘71 R/T), Scriptive “Challenger” Fender Badges and a Functional Hood(Same as SRT8 but no SRT Stripe). Available in Auto Stick or 6- Speed Manual with Track Pak. No pricing has been released yet. Orders will probably open up late in the 4th Quarter."

Re: Classic Edition R/T

I thought all the r/t's had functioning hood scoops. Does this mean the r/t hood is like the se hood?

Re: Classic Edition R/T

I saw the rendering of the Classic Edition R/T in the new 09 catalog, very nice. I guess that car and the upcoming B5 Blue SRT Challenger may be the only time you'll see that color on the car.

No functioning scoops on R/T models, just like the SE.

I too thought that they were functional (for cooling purposes) on both the RT and SRT.

Re: Classic Edition R/T

Go to Dodge.com - 2009 Challenger - Models - Model Comparison - Styling

It says SE - Performance Hood, R/T - Performance Hood, SRT - Performance Hood with functional air inlet ducts

I was disappointed to see that as well, until I heard that the original 70's R/Ts didn't have functioning scoops either.

Re: Classic Edition R/T

The SRT' s scoops are very small and only let a small amount of air to flow over the engine. To me they might as well be non functional. I don't see any benefit to having them or not.

Re: Classic Edition R/T

Correct, the only trim level with functional scoops is the SRT8 (both auto and manual). The only exception is if you get the Classic R/T package (B5 Blue only) in which case it too comes with functional hood scoops.

As was mentioned before, there is no ram-air effect. SRT Engineers said it would've actually been more restrictive to do so with those scoops. The only benefit is that it lets air in over the engine to help cool it. Air movement in the engine bay definitely helps cool the engine, but it's definitely not going to give you a performance gain.

Exactly, in my opinion they may as well be closed. Same thing with the Charger SRT, i never see any benefit from it. The guys with the magnums and 300's run just the same as i do without the scoops. So whats the big deal, other than it sounds cool lol
