Clutch go BOOM !

Well.... Maybe I should have stuck with my R/T.
Last night I took the wife out to dinner and when we got home she commented on the smell the car was making. I thought( and privately hoped) that it may have been a car in front of us. Yet when we parked, there was an acrid smell not unlike brakes(asbestos). I double checked to see if the parking brake was hanging up, but it was fine. I went in the house thinking, I must have run something over and I'll check it in the morning on my way to work.
So I leave this morning and the car smells fine. No issues. Work is about 20 miles away. Feels great. But at the last few blocks from the job, I notice the clutch feels real notchy when leaving a stopsign. Oh man..you have got to be kidding. Thoughts of 425's posts are dancing in my head. I start to smell the clutch.
So I pull into my job and park. When I get out, it felt like was punched in the face by the clutch smell. ...Son of a *&%$ !
Now I have gotten on the car a few times, but nothing, and I mean nothing that would have fried a clutch.
So after I get my workers on the road, I hightail it over to the local dealer. They were nice, but I felt very uncomfortable with them touching my car. Quite ham fisted. About 20 minutes later the guy comes out and tells me "we're gonna' order ya' a new clutch".... Holy sh!t... This car has 1250 miles on it and believe me, if I abused clutches my 6 speed R/T wich was driven the same way, never would have made it to 4000. So now I'm really bummed out. I need a clutch on a brand new car.....sux !
Please don't flame me about my poor skills on a clutch. I'm 45 years old, learned on a clutch, almost all of my cars were clutch and I ride a motorcycle for half of the year.... But if it makes folks feel better about this poorly designed clutch...then it was me.

I PRAY you had some kind of defective part and that its not the clutches are crap. Are the clutches different in the SRT than the ones in the R/T? I did't think they were. Is the dealer gonna warranty the clutch? If so,that would be a first.

Sorry to hear about this MOONDOG. Such low miles to have the clutch go. I hope they replace it at no cost. Hope to see you up at Bear Mountain one day.

I'm hoping that they design something better if there is a fault causing this. Sucks to here this but glad the dealership is taking care of you. I haven't had a problem but if I do, I'll install a Spec setup.

Sorry about your clutch problem. I have almost the same problem going on, mine smells burnt after a short drive and you can hear it. It sounds like it's coming apart and like you I have not run it hard at all only have 1,600 miles or so on it. Will take it in to the dealer as soon as I can.

Sounds like a defect to me: like the clutch wasn't engaging all the way or something. I thought the SRT engineers said that the clutch and transmission are both the same as what's in the Viper. At least that's what I heard the SRT manager say on the Challenger episode on the Speed Channel I just watched. Should be able to hold I would think.

Wow, that bites. Sorry to hear that. These cars are a heavy load for a clutch that's not up to the task.

I feel a little pulsation when I back out in the a.m. if I keep my foot on the clutch. Not sure what that is about.

This just blows Amigo.
The only repreive is that your dealer seems to be on top of things.
I cant believe all the crap we are reading about these clutches. They are supposed to be derived from the Viper set up, therefore virtually indestructible......I cant see what's going on here except for a manufacturing issue, and I really hope this is not the case...

Keep us tuned in and good luck Dog....

why would anyone question it not being under warranty,it sure as hell better be w/ $00.00 cost to moondog. its part of the drivetrain. i just wonder if they would install the better aftermarket clutch i've read about on the forum if you were to purchase your own. but then they would probably void a future warranty issue if one arose w/flywheel or tranny, etc
