Clutch noise/ chatter

Although my Challenger is only 48 hrs old I am trying to get used to the new sounds etc. Can anyone put my mind at ease, when I begin to release/ engage the clutch at low speeds there is a chatter sound as it engages. I dont remember hearing it when I left the lot, but everything was so new I was just trying to drive it safely. I have not driven a stick for many years so I may be rusty on the sounds but I would feel better with some reassuring advice. (like being a new father again, ha, ha)

thx

I was worried about the clutch after hearing of Moondogs problems with his. Mine does not make any chattering sound and engages smoothly but will still grab rubber as I go through the gears.

There was only 5 miles on it when I left the lot, now there is say 120 miles on it. As for clutch smell, I honestly cant tell you as there is alot of smells from it right now, I think there is stuff burning off the car as it gets heated up?

Hi Happy, my SRT has had no chatter or irregular smells regarding the clutch. I only have 1000 miles on it, but I broke it in aggressively, but without full throttle starts or redline shifts. You may want to return to the dealer to put your mind at ease.

If it is chattering, I would say bring it in A.S.A.P.

Thanks Moondognyc. I have read all your related post and have commented there on all the good info. I will bring it in next week sometime to have a tech take it for a spin. I did drive it all evening and it seems to grab well but that sound is there. One fella says, according to my description, perhaps a normal sound due to the double clutch set up. It cant hurt to have it test driven however and I would feel better about it.

This explains the twin disc clutch and will make you feel better, they are noisier and it is normal. So don't worry yourself my friend!!!

definitely normal to an extent. if it only does at low rpms and light throttle you are good. the chatter is in the design of twin disc clutches, the floater plate in the middle is what causes this. with only 48hrs on it, im sure your clutch is fine.

Hey Bud,
Did you find the source of your vibration yet?
Bob
