Re: C'mon, Dodge, throw us a bone

I guess it could be worse. We could be waiting 2-3 years for V8 models. If they could get the MDS to work on the 6.1 along with a manual trans it might get decent fuel mileage.

Re: C'mon, Dodge, throw us a bone

I found some interesting (although slightly old) bits on information on the following website:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/2008-dodge-challenger.htm

"Dodge intends the 2008 Challenger as a low-volume high-performance vehicle, so no V-6 engine or smaller V-8 is planned. This could narrow Challenger's appeal. While Mustang's muscular V-8 models get all the attention, a good portion of Mustang sales are the V-6 versions. And Chevy will offer both a V-6 and a V-8 in its new Camaros.

Transmission choices for the 2008 Dodge Challenger are a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. With either, the 2008 Dodge Challenger should offer acceleration to rival anything Mustang or and Camaro can throw at it.

With the lowest curb weight of any vehicle equipped with the 6.1-liter Hemi V8, the Challenger should be able to do 0-60 mph in a scorching 4.5 seconds.

2008 Dodge Challenger Prices:Way too early for Dodge to say anything, but don't be surprised at a $35,000 starting price for the 2008 Challenger.

Savvy shoppers will wait months, maybe a year, until Challenger fever cools down to get the best deal on this born-again muscle car.

2008 Dodge Challenger First Test Drive: Expect a full Consumer Guide test before the end of 2007."

Re: C'mon, Dodge, throw us a bone

I still can't for the life of me figure out why you wouldn't want to build as many of these things as customers will buy. Certainly adding a V6 model would add greatly to the sales volume. I don't see anyone complaining about the idea here.
I just received a highway 61, 1/18 scale modle of the concept. This car is an absolute knockout from all angles! In fact I dare say that it is the perfect car. Perhaps Chrysler feels the need to test the waters before they commit lines to building 10,000 a month.
If they would quit wasting precious engineering effort on things like air conditioned cup holders. I'm sure that will attract a lot of Camry owners.

I think that DCX is being a little timid about production. The first year, they seem to be testing the water to determine demand.

If all of the cars sell, as expected, I suspect that they will ramp up production and produce more models in 2009 with a variety of options (including V6s, like the Chargers).

Re: C'mon, Dodge, throw us a bone

I just checked the Dodge website and the "latest" news is still the July 1, 2006 release that "the Challenger is a Go." It has been 10 months since this release DCX... Don't you think you're overdue for an update????

What did we do before computers /the internet ? Yah, and that changes a lot of things. Just like GM either hearing/seeing about the Challenger Concept and hurrying to bring out the Camaro Concept and plans : or is that just an unbelieveable coincidence ??????? Oh well .
