Re: Color of the first production Challenger

I think that Plum Crazy stands a good chance of being one of the 2008 Challenger colors.

In chargerforums, someone posted that a car carrier was seen, yesterday, leaving the factory with a load of Plum Crazy Chargers.

I agree. I think the Concept Car Orange or Plum Crazy is going to be the flagship color that you see in all the marketing for this car. The orange is bright, bold and already recognizable. And the Plum Crazy is just one of those VERY iconic old Mopar Muscle colors. Stirs up a lot of emotion and brings back a lot of good memories.

I'm glad to hear about the Chargers. I've been doing online searches trying to find a pic of a new Plum Crazy Charger and haven't had much success. I'd really like to see this color. Maybe it's time to do a new search.

I have read that Plum Crazy Chargers have been appearing at Dodge dealerships.

Here is a link to the Plum Crazy Dodge Daytona that appeared in the January 2007 Detroit auto show.

Re: Color of the first production Challenger

I found a great site that lists all of the retro colors for the 1970's Plymouths and Dodges. Hopefully, we may see some of these on the new Challenger. See:

Re: Color of the first production Challenger

I was at the Spring Fling car show at the Brampton plant last Sunday.
I saw a numbers of Chargers in the parking lot waiting to be shipped out. They were Plum Crazy. When we went over to look at them closely, it was clear that they were darker than the cars that were painted Plum Crazy in the show. One of the guys who works in the plant said it was the closest that PPG could get to the original. I do not believe that at all. Whatever the reason, they looked darker. I also heard that this will be the first colour and they will build about 3500 and go straight into the 2009 production designation. I am number 7 on the list at the dealer where I left my deposit. That does not bode well for me to get a 2008, even though I want the Plum Crazy. The first ones will probably be loaded with every option and make them out of the market for me as far as price is concerned. I am also told that the steel hoods are already in the plant. Right now they are building the mules for testing. They would not bring one outside for the show.

I have been thinking this about their new idea of "plum crazy" since I first saw it on the charger in those pictures. Old school plum crazy did not seem deep purple as much as a metallic purplish mauve color, much lighter than the purple shown on that charger. If this is their idea of a modern plum crazy I will probably axe it in favor of black or some other high impact color that is more authentic*. That would be too bad, I really like the old plum crazy.

*Now the B5 blue Charger... that looked fantastic.

Re: Color of the first production Challenger

The car I want to order with my deposit is Plum Crazy. I am having second thoughts now that I have seen the colour on a car. My 68 R/T is Q1 which is a shade lighter than B5 and it looks great with the white stripe. If they had that option, I might change my mind again. Although it would be niceto have a variety in my fleet.

Its very odd, if you look at the first two pictures you see a purple charger. If you look at the hood and roof of the car in the third picture you see plum crazy. I am starting to wonder whether the pictures I've seen of older cars with plum crazy were taken with the sun hitting the car at just the right angle to produce the illusion of a lighter purple/mauve color.
