General Challenger DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the Dodge Challenger. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
Soo looking at making my first major car purchase with the dodge challenger and was wondering a couple of things.
1: Between the SE model, R/T model, and the SRT8 model; which of these three is the best bang for your buck, can work as a daily drvier (gas does not matter to me), and be able to have some good power and pull.
2: With the SE and R/T which trim level is best?
3: Is this car really a five seater or a typical pony car leg cruncher?
4: How good are these vehicles in wet conditions? (depending on model)
5: 6 speed or 5 auto (or 4 auto for SE)
IMO the best bang for the buck is the RT. I drive it every time I leave the house. I have not had any problems driving the car in the rain as long as traction control is on. However I really haven't tried driving in the rain without it.

Kewl, thanks for the response and i cant actually see the reason to drive in the rain without the traction control lol
5 adults is pressing it. I take myself and three others to lunch in my RT sometimes. It's fine once they are in, but getting in and out can be a chore.
I decided that once I added all the options I wanted on an SE, it wasn't much less expensive than an RT. Look carefully at what comes standard on each level. it explains a lot of the price difference.
Depending on your ability to pay and what you want out of the car, the SRT is the way to go. This is not a slam on R/T owners, their cars are wonderful. But most of the performance mods have already been done. Suspension is upgraded, the car comes with headers from the factory, horsepower is greater, interior is upgraded. On and on. Not that you can't continue on to mod the SRT -- just look around here -- but you are at the pinnacle of the model line. Mileage is decent. I average 16.5 MPH as a daily driver. Back seat room is good for this type of car, but nobody back there over 12 is going to be comfortable for any long trips. Auto or manual is up to preference, but I would pick auto if you drive in stop and go rush hour traffic. Remember, the auto has autostick, so you can at least occasionally have the fun of running through the gears. The owners manual acutally recommends using autostick for best performance.
Bottom line, if you want a high performance daily driver, aren't really interested in anything other than light mods and want to keep your car stock in order to keep it within warrantee, and can afford it, go with the SRT.

How about with baby seats? i heard that they have anchor pionts in the car just for child restraint seats. Do they work do you know?

We have had two child seats in the car and honestly for a daily driver, if you have both children in there, I think it would get old. The Challenger is great once they are in there, but to have to actually load 'em in there every day for every trip would get really old, really fast.
I have an SE and I love it! If I would have had more cash I would have bought the R/T. Having said that mine is a daily driver with lots of highway miles and I have been getting 27-28 MPG. I know you said gas is not an issue but it may be in the future. I have heard the R/T is close to that MPG mark. I know the SE is not going to blow away all the cars on the road but it is fast and for a daily driver how fast can you go? I see cops everywhere these days. Driving in heavy rain is no problems. I have hit standing water that would have left me white knuckled in another car but not anymore. Good luck with your choice and remember no matter what you will be buying the best looking car on the road!
