Dealer: "what's the difference between an R/T & SRT?"
So I had a day off today & when running errands I decided to swing by my local stealership to get my fix of the Challenger while i wait until mine arrives from Bob.
Obviously a dealer comes right over & introduces himself. I immediately tell him I have a B5 R/T Classic on order and that i'm just there to look at the beautiful Challengers on his lot.
We talk about them for a bit, I ask about how many R/T's they've had through recently compared to SRT's and his response is this "What's the difference between an SE, R/T & SRT8 then?". He knew nothing of the Classic either.
I had to explain to him the engine difference, cosmetic differences & about the Classic too.
NOW it does turn out that he has only been there for two months. But seriously, this is their Dodge's best selling car, surely dealers should be reading up and learning on their product? I was the only customer there, and when i left the dealer was just sitting on a bench in the sun. SURELY he could spend this time learning his product to make a sale?
No wonder this dealer has been struggling to sell over 20 cars a month.
It seems as though that's typical for most dealers. Every vehicle I've ever bought I knew way more about it than the sales guy. It's even worse when you go to an auto show where they just hire the "pretty" people to smile and hand out brochures.

It's the individual and also management's fault. One should have the self motivation to be the best at whatever they do. Management should ensure it's employees are trained on their products so as to be able to sell it correctly.
You should have mentioned to him to get familiar with what he sells because his definition could seriously reduce his commission.
surely a car dealer realizes this though? he said to me 'well i find most customers know more about the cars we sell than we do'. that should not be the case for the average customer!!!!
i am glad that i didn't order my car from these guys, im certain i would never see it if i did.
I go back to my initial statement of it being the individual's fault. If I flipped burgers I would work to be the best damn burger flipper out there. Some people just don't have any personal pride in what they do.
Sadly...I don't expect dealership salespeople to know anything except the phrases "let me talk to my manager" and "will you buy today?".
I haven't been in a new car store lately where it looked like anyone had worked there long enough to have dry ink on their business cards. I was in a dealership showroom in the last month and within 10 minutes, 4 guys came in to apply for an open sales position. I think these places have higher turnover than McDonalds.
