Deposit Needed?

Do I need to make a deposit with a dealer for an SE or be put on a waiting list? Or will be there enough to go around come September? If so, how much deposit do most dealers require and is it 100% refundable? It is usually check...cash?

Thinking about going to talk to my dealer...but if it's not necessary, then I'll just walk into the dealership in September and buy one.

I don't think you'll have any problem buying an SE. There may only be a waiting list for the limited production SRTs.

Re: Deposit Needed?

Just for information, from my personal experience, I have usually deposited on (hehe) cars I want, but they are always hot rods. It seems the more demand there is, the more chance a deposit is required. I only go to one dealer, and originally it took $500 to get in line, now it is $1000. It is always refundable with him, which I have done once. I've had a $1000 deposit on the Challenger SRT for over a year now.

I guess they want the money to show good faith, and believe me, he knows I hate to do it, but do, and am always treated more than fairly. I have bought many cars over many years, and this is the only salesman that I could ever trust. Trying to find someone like that might be a real challenge (play on words).

And what Cuda340 says is probably true. May be true for the R/T too, but just a guess.

Re: Deposit Needed?

I'm on the list for an R/T and my dealer hasn't said anything about a deposit. I'm not giving them a dime until I have to.

Re: Deposit Needed?

I had to put 5K down on my SRT8 as well, but doing this we agreed on a price. I don't know how your local dealers are, but you might want to put some cash down but agree on a price before doing so. This way you can get their first one the way you want and a price you like. Get it in writing also.
