Difference between Challenger & Charger?

I knew that there were a few of the same items that are in the Challengers
that are also in the Chargers.
But I really don't care because the car rides great.
I know that they are built on the same platform
Same engine?
The same interior....
Only difference I think is the Manual transmision that I can see and maybe a tad more HP.

Are there any other difference other then putting a challenger body on it?JQ

Re: Difference between Challenger & Charger?

Hey, the original Challenger was based on a shortened B-body Charger chassis too, so it's a nice case of history repeating itself.

Re: Difference between Challenger & Charger?

There's similarities, but the center stack, center stack controls and IP cowl are different shapes.

Center consoles have different shape and is canted toward driver on Challenger, Charger version is flatter, more level.

Seats have a slight change in style and bolsters compared to Charger.

Interior door trim has revisions from the Charger version.

Steering wheel is the same design.

The mechanicals: engine, automatic transmission, front suspension, rear suspension are the same. Slightly different power ratings on 5.7 V8 though. I believe the automatic in Challenger has different ratios in 1st (and 2nd?) to give it better acceleration.

Challenger gets different spring rates, shock rates, (don't know if sway bars are different, although the 6cyl Challenger gets rear sway bar, while the 300, Charger, Magnum didn't).

2009 R/T 27J pkg (6 speed MT) ordered 7/17/08, built 10/23/08, home on 11/13/08

Eibach Sportline Suspension
Hotchkis Sway Bars
Nitto 555 Extreme 265/50-18"
392 Cam / DS CMR tune
Hurst /G&K modded short-throw shifter
Black gauge faces, lighted needles

Re: Difference between Challenger & Charger?

The Challenger & Charger are similar, yet different.

Besides the obvious 2 door vs. 4 door, the Challenger has:
Shorter wheelbase
Heavier steering
Manual transmission option (with all the goodies that includes)
Better looks (my opinion)

Other guys may add to this list or write what advantages the Charger has (besides the two extra doors).

Re: Difference between Challenger & Charger?

I always thought the Charger was not my type of car(don't want
to say anything bad about the car }
Yep I didnot care about the front of the car and also the 4 doors.
Glad that Dodge put the challenger on the same platform since I heard many good things about it.
But i was very surprised that the Charger didnot come witha manual trans. Now that was a screwup I would think?..JQ

Re: Difference between Challenger & Charger?

They couldn't fit a manual in the original LX platform. The Challenger is riding on a shortened (by 4" I think) and modified LX chassis.

The 09 Charger R/T has an absurd 2.65 rear end gear (for gas mileage I'm sure) compared to the much better gearing in the Challenger.
