My theory on increase in SE / SXT models:
* 5-speed automatic phased in
* 3.6 V6 offered improvement in MPG & performance
* fleet sales to rental car agencies
* price entry point of V6 vs. V8 models
(Ford sells a LOT of V6 'Stangs - probably for every GT, there's 2.25 V6 models sold), especially when factoring in rental car fleet sales
