Re: Dodge to cut back on greedy dealerships

Fred,

Thanks for the advice and it will be helpful for others to read it as they place their 09 orders.
By the way he is one of the good dealers and I think others at Chryslers recogize that.

You would think some of the bad dealerships would wonder why would Dodge put up a website for their customers to track the status of their Challenger. I kindof think they expected some dealers to play games and now have an excellent way to see how the loyal customer ordered it and did or did not receive the car.

I know there are some varying factors but in the end it is all about moving metal and when the car sits on the lot for a long period of time with a hot car like the Challenger, you wonder how long it takes them to move the other vehicles.

Re: Dodge to cut back on greedy dealerships

Last month I contacted a local dealer and he said they were getting 4 Challengers and that 3 were "already spoken for". He stated that they would be sold for what the average price for one in the country was going for - around $60,000.

I told the guy good luck in selling your vehicles and told him to contact me in a month if the last one hasn't sold. Anyways, I see on the Dodge website that this dealer still has 4 Challengers on his lot.

So I e-mail the guy and ask him if he's still selling them at $20,000 over MSRP. I haven't heard from him since. I check the inventory almost every day of the local dealers and it seems they haven't moved many Challengers in Southern California.

It could be with gas prices, the economy and the housing problems, that not many people are going to buy a gas guzzling muscle car at this time. And with the 2009's due out later in the year, seems many SRT's will be sitting for a while. The bright side is that there could be deals to be made on these vehicles. (good for us!)

Re: Dodge to cut back on greedy dealerships

My TURN!, Hey the dealer is in the buisness to make money, Like it or not that is the bassis of any buisness. Now if some one wants that Challeger bad enough, yep they are gonna pay 20K over MSRP. Well for me it's a car, and no matter how badly I want it, it will still be a car, plastic, metal, rubber, and drinks $4.00 a gallon gas. I do not want it bad enough to give 20K over MSRP. I will wait till I can get the deal that fits my wallet.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this or not, but if you surf ebay for an 08 Challenger, you will find plenty, and their prices are coming down to MSRP levels not the 20K over MSRP that I saw a few weeks ago.

Also I want you all to know that this is a great group of people here, you all seem to be real freindly people and freely offer advice, It's a great forum. I just want to say that. Thanks, and I hope to meet several of you one day at a car show maybe?? who knows, Look for the old guy that is sitting next to the 79 Magnum, and wearing a Challenger t-shirt, that would be me.

A recent Orange County report indicates 12,000 homes are in foreclosure...

Selling price of existing homes dropped 15% last month...

Banks are defaulting...

I wonder why...

.
Good point about why, it worked well, expect to see more cars trackable this way.

Re: Dodge to cut back on greedy dealerships

today a Challenger sold for $50k AT AUCTION. that is right, the report doesn't say the name, but someone at an auto auction paid $50k for a Challenger with just over 500 miles.

Which one of you got it at MSRP, drove it for a few weeks and sold it for a profit?

Then the buyer is stupid. There are BINs at Ebay right now in the 45k range for brand new Challengers.

$50k for a USED 08 SRT, that may have been one of the cars on you tube where some yahoo is pounding the daylights out of it..drifting and doing power braking burnouts when brand new ones are selling for less..
