Angry Dodge Dealer Public Robbery Don’t let it Happen

I went by the dealership shown below yesterday to ask about the Challenger. The guy’s story was in conflict with everything I’ve seen from Chrysler that I had to ask, where do you get your information? Here a list of what was the most shocking.
I would not buy a car from this guy if he was the last SOB selling the last car on earth.
Earnhardts Gilbert Dodge
1301 N. Arizona Ave
Gilbert, Az85233
  • The initial release will only be 3000 cars.
  • He is getting 11 of those cars.
  • The cars being built as 2009 not 2008 cars.
  • The next release will not be until the 2010 build.
  • He is selling the cars with a $20K premium.
    • A $37k CAR WITH A $20k MARKUP. HE MUST BE SMOKING DOPE!!! I’LL BUY A DAMN FORD MUSTANG FIRST.
  • There are only two options, sunroof and MP3 player.
  • There are only two (2) colors orange and black.

Ok, so he is confused or has the public been lied to. The part that should concern the buying public and Chrysler the most is the $20K markup. If Chrysler really wants to sell this car in meaningful numbers, it better reel the dealerships in. That story about they can not control the dealerships is silly. Nissan has formally released a statement from its Headquarters that it will take the necessary action to prevent dealerships from overcharging for their soon to be released GTR. If the import guys can do it, so can Chrysler, if they really want to...

Man! Your post is quite the challenge to read! (No pun intended)

Ok so obvoiusly this salesman is ... mis-informed. (I'm being nice becuase anyone selling a $40,000 car should know their product.)
I have talked to some Dodge dealers that will not charge over MSRP because they know it will affect customers opinions in the future. They have moved a lot of SRT's becuase of this.

We are dealing with the laws of supply and demand here, just like every time a new play station comes out. If you want it bad enough and have the money then buy it. If you are Po or just cannot rationalize paying $50,000 for something that is worth $40,000 then don't buy it!

If I were selling...sponges and they came out with a new super sponge and everyone wanted it I would charge what the market can bear. It's called a free market society, one of the features of the USA.

Damn that was hard to read. Under Federal law, Dodge cannot tell the dealer what he can or cannot sell the car for. He is free to sell it at whatever price he chooses. So the only thing to do is wait it out. Let the rich boys buy up the '08s, then the rest of us can buy an '09 at MSRP, or maybe even below, depending on what the market and economy are like then. Patience is a virtue

That is my plan. I couldn't agree with you more.

Re: Dodge Dealer Public Robbery Don’t let it Happen

Edmunds.com has added the 2008 Challenger SRT to its list of new models.

The car has an invoice price of $34,803 and a MSRP of $37,320. As expected, this is almost the same as the 2008 SRT Charger that has an invoice of $33,905 ($898 less)and a MSRP of $36,355 ($965 less).

This information is good to know for those of us who plan to purchase a 2009 model.
