Does DCX have a 6-speed manual for a 5.7L?

I was talking to my partner at work today about how the Charger would be sitting in my driveway if not for the auto-only issue. He then told me that he heard that DCX actually developed a 6-speed for what he thinks was the 5.7L, but the goverment didn't like a car that could go 65mph before shifting to 3rd gear ! Does anybody know if this is true?

Well, though I'm not a mechanic or an engineer or an authority on this matter, I'll however take a " stab " at this !!! I find it somewhat hard to believe ,the Government part I mean [ although these days ,nothing would surprise me !!! ] Also, I thought that the Viper can reach 60-65 easily in 2nd gear possibly up to 80 [might be wrong there] . Another reason for ' not believing' that is for what reason /purpose would the Government not 'like' that..heck I'm surprised the Government allows automakers to still have speedometers have readings 120mph and higher !! In fact I just hope no Governmental entities are reading Challengertalk.com and/or get wind of what Hemis and other powerful things can do !!!

In that case we would not have the Viper or C6 Z06. I think you're partner is on crack or has hemi envy. Let me guess he has an Accord ?

Not to mention the 08 Sting Ray Vette that will see 80 mpg in first yikes, my precious M cars will be eaten alive.

Why does DODGE keep insisting on killing the CHARGER?????? What did it ever do to them???? Besides sell!!!!!! They killed it back in the 70's, drove it right into the ground, meanwhile introducing the Challenger/Cuda as the performance cars to have!! Is history trying to repeat itself here???????????? If so they would give the right options, like a manual trans, or say I don't know a.... 2 DR....maybe? An AUTOstik does not substitute for those gears! I don't see why they wouldn't be able to mount a 6spd onto a smallblock! more performance maybe even save at the pump with higher gear ratio.

Ok so it would seem that his information may be more than just a little bit off... he owns a Dodge Ram, btw...... and I would tell him that he's on crack, cept he also happens to be my boss lol

but does anybody know if there is any legitimacy to the claim that DCX developed & didn't produce a 6-speed manual for a Hemi?

Well, if anyone would know, it would be Doc Z. ..maybe go ask Dr.Z.com. Anything's possible. I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the kingdom of DCX that they aren't testing/trying different combos of parts !

we don't care about any claims of government conspiracies... I think that I, along with more than a few others, were more curious as to wheither or not DCX had ever deleoped a 6-speed that, for whatever reason, they didn't mass produce.

Automaker giants' conspiracies are a little easier to believe.
