Don Garlits Challenger?

A friend of a friend who owns a dodge dealership told him of a Carrel Shelby style "Big Daddy" Don Garlits Edition of the Challenger. Some thing along the lines of Supercharged SRT8. Also he told me about Dodge doing a 1968 Dart/Cuda Super Stock factory drag cars. So you could walk into your Dodge Dealership and order a "P" part number that would have one engine or another based on what class you would want to run in a new lightened challenger drag car.

Has anyone heard of any of this?

Thanks Mike

2004 SRT 4 ....for now

Re: Don Garlits Challenger?

Don't know about a Gartlis edition, but I did read about Chrysler intending to offer Challengers to drag racers. Sounded like basicly a body shell offered through Mopar Performance.

I have serious doubts that they are going to reproduce the old Dart/Cuda super stock cars. However, Mr. Norm of old school Mopar fame is offering modernized 1968 Hemi Darts. They upgrade the suspension with 4 links, ect and a Hemi engine making around 6-700hp. Price I think was about $175,000.

Re: Don Garlits Challenger?

I found this on allpar.com-

Dodge Challenger Super Stock Drag car to be available within weeks! According to oh20, a Challenger 800 pounds lighter than the production version will be available for racing. This will be a special factory package built for NHRA-sanctioned Stock Eliminator drag racing. Features will include a unique serial number sequence, variations of current Hemi and 5.9 liter Magnum engines, automatic or manual transmission, and special lightweight features including:
  • Lightweight front fascia support system
  • Composite lift-off hood with functional scoop
  • Lightweight cooling module with electric fan
  • Special modified drop-out front crossmember
  • Lightweight drag race-only front brake assembly
  • Seats to accommodate six-point harness
  • Special Body-in-White modified for drag racing

This is one serious package that does away with such frills as windshield wipers, power windows, HVAC System, sound deadener and rear seats to create one lightweight and intense racing machine.

Does this mean that only a person with a legal document [from NHRA ] can purchase one of these [ or at least purchaser has to sign and agree that ,'This product is for off-street driving/racing and upon buying this Vehicle, said purchaser agrees to abide to this legal agreement and to abide to all Federal , State and local laws [ with the exception of Hazzard County !!!] ???
