Drag Race Package

On May 15, 2008, edmunds had this update on the Challenger drag race package:

"DETROIT, Michigan — Chrysler will introduce a drag-racing package for the Dodge Challenger, with an official debut announcement set for this summer — "probably July," Chrysler spokeswoman Patricia Georgevich told Inside Line today.

The drag-racing Challenger will be a latter-day version of the late-'60s Hemi Dart and Barracuda package cars from Chrysler, says Georgevich. The idea was first announced back at the 2007 SEMA Show, when a Challenger drag-racing package was shown with competition-bred versions of the third-generation Hemi engine.

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is working with Chrysler now to sanction the components for racing use.

No details about pricing, quantities, availability or specifications are available yet.

If this is the Super Stock (Where Dodge showed a concept of it in black w/shaker and then the red/white/blue car) then it's kind of a moot point. Someone had posted a lot of information about the car a few days back on Allpar forums. News, 2008 Challenger Super Stock Drag car

Long story short is that only 100 are being made and all are already sold to NHRA Stock/Super Stock teams.

I have the oldest dodge dealer in the country by me (Tator). He said the racing cars are impossible to actually get even if you have juice. You also need all kinds of special licenses e.g. SCCA, etc

Who told you that ? I didn't see it listed in the NHRA stock car clasification guide. If it's not listed it dosen't race in stock eleminator. I hope your not just being a wet blanket because i want one . BAD!

Who do you contact at dodge to get info about this car? Somebody must be able to get/sell them. If you don't want to post this kind of info please send it to me. thanks.

The most information I've ever seen about the super stock was in that post at allpar.com

I personally do not know anything about the car and have no idea whether or not the post is true or false. Simply thought I'd pass it along that someone claims to be getting a super stock, that only 100 would be made, and that they're already sold. He also mentions local dealerships are not the people selling them and that Chrysler was contacting track teams to sell it to them instead. So it's unlikely that your local dealers will ever really know solid info about the car.

It kind of makes sense as the market for a car that is not street legal is quite small. They probably would like to make sure the car sees a lot of track time, too, by selling it to track teams. From the sounds of it, the super stock was more so a publicity move in terms of the general public and that it is only intended to be sold to track teams.

If what the guy at allpar.com (who claims to be getting one for his track team) is correct, they are already sold and no one can get them at this point.

You might just want to get an order in for an '09 now and make it a project and make your own super stock per se.

Again, I personally know ZERO about the car -- simply that I saw that post a few days back and thought I'd relay it to you. Don't take my posting for anything other than relaying information for you to once-over and make your own call

As a matter of fact I do race and would like to upgrade to a late model car. Who is the person at allpar that claims to be getting one? Maybe they could point me in the right direction. Cutting up an 09 to race is too cost prohibative. Thanks for the reply.
