eBay Research

Hello everyone. Been trying/thinking of getting my hands on a Challenger but any dealer trying to get me to pay big bucks over MSRP is down right crazy. Everyone needs to have patience with this car. I remember buying my Charger R/T and looking on eBay shortly after and seeing SRT8's sell for consumer friendly prices. Let's not all get crazy now and start a bidding war. So what I've done is put 10 Challengers on my eBay watch list. Over the next 10 days they'll all sell. I'll put together a report of what they sold for and an average price. I understand these prices will be more than most of will be paying but I thought it might be interesting to see. I've called several dealers over the last few months and most of them have been telling me they expect to get $70,000+ dollars for their Challengers. I say BS. Most of the cars on eBay have a BuyItNow for $55,000-$57,000 which is still way too high.

In the end, if Dodge keeps this little charade going I'll spend my money on something else. Shelby Mustang has caught my eye as well.

I saw an 08 Challenger on autotrader listed at $39,000. Prob a croc of sh** but hey, it may be worth inquiring about. I would, but i want an 09.

I also have caught myselft looking at the Shelby GT500. A local dealer in my area has one with 1500 miles for about $43,000.

Re: eBay Research

Most ebay challys seem to be dropping a bit and selling for 47,000-50,000.
This is much different from a few weeks ago when I had seen some go for 65k buy it now.

I think the dealers will realize more and more each week that there are a VERY SMALL amount of people willing to pay that kind of mark up on this car. Especially with the 09's coming out less than 4 months later. Not to mention the addition of a 6 speed. I just cant see any reason at all to buy an 08. I know they have the option of Hemi Orange, but damn i could pay less than $2k and get my car re-painted in Hemi Orange lol

Re: eBay Research

Some early results. Three bids done: $45,000, $47,000, and $48,000 and none of them met the reserve status (on eBay you can put something up for bid and then put a minimum reserve price. If your item doesn't meet that price, it doesn't sell). So far it doesn't look like too many people are that interested in paying big bucks over the MSRP.

Re: eBay Research

Premium gas which is what you have to use in the SRT is up to $4.09 agallon in my area, Long Island, NY. I think this will definatley affect the price of the SRT-8 and maybe the RT Six speed Challenger which uses higher octane gas and won't have MDS.I use 92 octane in my SRT Crossfire and it's starting to get costly.

Re: eBay Research

Premium is about $1.32 per liter in canada where I live, higher in many other places.

I think that works out to about $4.98 US Gallon.
This will be an expensive car to run.
