First oil change

I know that the manual say's to change the oil at 6000 miles but should the first oil change be done before that and at what mileage?

Also was thinking of changing to Royal Purple but what are everyons thoughts or recommendations?

My service manual actually States every 6 months or 8000 miles. :what:
I've always change my synthetic oil at 5000 miles. It just so happened at the exact 6 month mark I was at 5010 miles on the odometer.
I used Mobil 1 full synthetic and the Mopar filter. I have used Mobil 1 full synthetic in all my vehicles.

I change mine every 3,000 miles. Could it last longer? Probably. I like clean oil in my car. I use regular oil.

For the first change, I would do it at 1,500 miles to remove any new engine debris that is being held in suspension. Then every 3,500 miles (regular oil) or 6,000 miles (synthetic oil).

I have been using Mobil 1 and feel that if its good enough for NASCAR engines, it's good enough for my 6.1. Purolator Pure One and Mobil 1 oil filters are excellent.

Actually, the 8000 mile intervals are just for service. It doesn't say anywhere that at 8000 miles that is your first oil change. It just says to change the oil. I know today's cars and engines are far more advanced but in my opinion, you would be crazy to wait 8000 miles before your 1st oil change.

i always do my first oil change at 1,000 miles...i dont beat on a car until thats done...my 2nd oil change is always at 5,000 miles.....from there i do it every 5,000

i think its crazy to wait until 8,000 miles for your first change....your engine is breaking in..all those metal pieces floating around....get them out of there

I was thinking about changing the oil at 1000 miles just like my Harley. I have heard good things about mobil 1 synthetic but has anyone used Royal Purple?

I also do the first one at 1000 miles, and the rest with synthetic will be every six months as I will only do about 5000 per year.
Just so you are aware our cars use 0W-40 mobil 1. Dodge did change it from 5W-40.

I would suggest visiting - Bob is the Oil Guy and do a little research if you want any sort of real information on this subject. Their site and forum is dedicated to the subject with participation from knowledgeable members and experts in related professions/industries. .otherwise you will get feedback based mostly on unsupported assumptions IMO/IME.
