Future Resale Value of 2008 SRT8 Challenger.???

What do you guys think after the 2009 model comes out and the car becomes widely available and the price gouging stops. and the 2009 cars start to come on to the secondary market will the 2008 models comand some kind of premieum for being first year production or will they be just USED cars.
I will be in the market for a Challenger once all the crazyness dies out after initial launch and thinking would buying a 2008 model used command some kind of collectors premium many years down the line.

Re: Future Resale Value of 2008 SRT8 Challenger.???

If you watched last weekend's Barrett-Jackson auction, you will have observed that the rarer the car and its options, the greater price they commanded.

That being said, I think in 25-30 years, all Hemi SRT and R/T Challengers may be collector items. However, the ones that will have the highest value may be the first year SRTs with numbered dash plates, followed by the 2009 SRTs.

I, however, am not worrying about future value. I am buying the car to drive it!

Re: Future Resale Value of 2008 SRT8 Challenger.???

I'am younger buck so I probably don't know as much as the older gents around here but I doubt it even though their numbered and all, their is really no stand out feature to make the '08 distinction as 09-up models roll out with the recent news that eventually chrysler will kill the hemi motor for its car lineup in the near future which could be anytime after 2010 your money would be better spent waiting for 2010 for the SRT-8 with 6.4(392)6-speed with rareist color available and then wait about 10-25 years like the oldskool challengers guys for the appreciation to roll in, otherwise I doubt the resale value will rise any, if at all in the first 9 years even on limited 5 year run with the challenger. In mopar guys hearts this car will be immensely special because chyrsler finally gave um what they wanted after 34 years it may not be perfect to every guy standards(weight, wheelsize, order options delete, and solid rear axle.)but you definetly have something to work with once you get your hands on vehicle... unlike the new charger which I like but not as much as challenger disgusted alotta ppl due to being 4-doors, it fits perfectly in modern time peroid market niche for now much like predecessor did in the 60's. The ppl that chrsyler is primarily targeting with challenger(babyboomers) will be able buy within first 3 years and after the charms wears off they'll be pretty accessible for the masses like anything chrysler on used market if looking thru autotrader goes for more especially at the stealerships private owners might gouge at first in used(you probably won't get morethan 25k for that car you just spent 42k for) market but most of hardcore faithful are not gonna pay barret jackson prices for used new challenger so close after it just was/or still is in production.

Re: Future Resale Value of 2008 SRT8 Challenger.???

I do it this way i buy a car slightly used then drive it for about 3 years put about 36k on it when its paid off i get Collectors Insurance on it and stick it in the garage and only lightly drive it after that and buy something else to save up lol. I did this with a 1996 Chevy Impala SS and a Buick GNX i sold those a few years later with a profit. I just bough a 300C SRT8 which had about 7k on it when i bought it i plan to drive it for about 30k miles and then stick it in the Garage and get collectors ins on it and drive it maybee 2k a year and buy the Challenger SRT8.

Jay Leno (my hero) says that he buys them when the value is worth 100 points and drives them down to 70. Now that's a car collector!!

Re: Future Resale Value of 2008 SRT8 Challenger.???

buy it, drive it and enjoy it....

investment wise, it will be many years or decades before any amount of appreciation is evident....there will be lots of these cars made and stored new by collectors....10-20 years from now, there will still be plenty of 08 SRT8 Challengers to choose from with very few miles

Following this theory, and I agree. Silver without a roof will probably be the least popular. As over 60% of orders came in for Hemi Orange.
