Giving up on the Challenger

Well, I'm finally giving up on the Challenger. I had been working with a dealer in NH almost 2 years ago when I purchased a Charger SRT8 and got word of the Challenger project. I had them put me on their list and then when the system was set to place an order back in December, they said everything is OK and they would let me know when it came in. I got an order number, etc. They contacted me not that long ago and they said that my order won't be going to me. I was very upset but recognize that dealers have all the control. I didn't sign a purchase/sale agreement as they said not to worry and that we agreed over the phone on MSRP. They just won't get any future business from myself and my friends and relatives who have purchased from them in the past. That's all I can do with a dishonest dealer who cares nothing about the long term value of great customers. Unfortunately this seems like the general direction of the Dodge dealers. Probably one of the many reasons why many are shutting the doors.

I don't expect much sympathy so I've now decided that since their is no chance in hell on getting an SRT Challenger, I've decided to give up. I wish you all the luck in your efforts to secure the car without getting seriously ripped off.

I love my very low VIN # 2006 Charger SRT8 with less than 10K miles on it. She is my baby and has the same motor as the Challenger with some great mods. I'll wait and see what happens with the Challenger and keep an eye on the potential 6.4 liter. In the meantime, good luck everyone and all the best with your new challengers. I hope to still participate in the forum but I'm frequently over at ChargerForums.com as devicespy same as here. Look forward to seeing pictures, stories, etc with your new Challengers. My Charger SRT8 still gets so many looks and lots of thumbs ups from passer on the highway.

Bob

Re: Giving up on the Challenger

Don't give up on the Challenger! If you look around you'll see many have similar stories to share about their local dealers screwing them one way or another (myself included). Your best bet is to find someone who WANTS your business and place an order for an '09 with them. If you want to get an '09 SRT8, it's going to be cutting it close but you should definitely talk to someone like Bob Frederick (a supporting dealer at this site) and get an order in ASAP.

I myself had an '08 lined up (two, actually -- one as a backup plan) and I willingly pulled both deposits after my dealers were just refusing to work out a price with me waiting to see how much they could gouge or simply not willing to speak with me about my car once I had my deposit in.

Check'em out and get an '09! It won't be but a few months delayed as opposed to the '08 -- plus you get the option of the 6-speed and true limited slip.

Re: Giving up on the Challenger

Sorry this happened to you Devicespy. I also got the shaft I had 10% down plus a signed sales agreement. I have retained an attorney but, the bottom line is it will cost me time and money to get a 2008 car or a judgement against them. It took all of the fun out of it for me. The same crap happened to me in 2005 with my 300C srt8. I have ordered a 2009 and I hope that goes well, but having waited this long and then being disappointed takes all of the fun out of getting the car. I think that the Dodge dealers and Chrysler or making a big mistake doing this to people. The big joke about the whole thing is that the Hey Day / Holy Grail of Challengers were only made for 24 months and then insurance regs took the big hp motors away. Hell I have been waiting 24 months for this car and it is just now getting here. The lead time on this retro ride has been longer than the original lasted. My advice, go by a vintage e-body.

Re: Giving up on the Challenger

The same thing had happened to many of us here as well, and we went dealer direct with Bob Fredericks and it was the smartest thing I could have done. Getting a hold of Bob who is now a listed vendor here was the easiest route to get his car and the guy really knows his stuff..This car is going to be rare and don't trust it getting into your hands buy just a salesman promise.Deal direct, and don't wait they are going fast at least the SRT8's are..

My car I had a deposit on for 2 years went to my local dealers best buddy what a kick in the shorts that was not to mention all of my time wasted going to the dealership in person .....Often.

Don't give up its a dream you have follow it thru if possible..
The entire mission h ere is too put these cars in the guys hands who really want them and you are among many who follow that template.
Welcome to the forum and good luck to you.

keep on keepin on.

Re: Giving up on the Challenger

Sorry to hear your misfortune. Trust me though, you are not the only one with this story. There will be another 3500 of you with the same problem. There will only be 6400 built, and close to 10,000 were ordered. So you figure up how many people will be just as upset. You really should look at getting an 09. Its a great time to do so, we have 3 vendors on our site that will get you what you want. I of course recommend Bob Frederick. He's on his game, but all of the dealers here are top notch and you cant go wrong with any of them.

Re: Giving up on the Challenger

That is true, Bob is the only DEALER that actually sells direct. He doesnt have a salesman step in for him, so no more middle man. Which helps guarantee the bs will be cut out. You cant go wrong with him. Seriously one call and you will no what i mean

Re: Giving up on the Challenger

D-spy. Never say Die and Never Give Up! First, give Bob Fredericks a call. He won't be surprised to hear what happened to you. He has helped many a person at this forum, including myself, who has shared a similar down-heartening experience as you did. If you don't call Bob, check out the many other reputable dealers listed here at the forum. Secondly, Things happen for a reason. Please don't shut the door on this one because it might hit you in the backside when you see a challenger on the road. Get in on a good thing now - the 09's. In the meantime, keep enjoying that Charger of yours. At least your driving around in another hot Dodge!
