Group Buy - Predator & 180 Thermostat

I know I saw a thread on a Predator (and possibly 180 Thermostat) groupbuy, but can't seem to find it anywhere now?

Where's the best Deal?

I've been driving my heart out and my iphone craps out when I try to post to this site now...

Thanks!

I haven't seen just the pred and tstat group buy...usually comes with a catback, pred, tstat, cai. HHP has got them in stock to ship, last I checked anyway.

ROFL Venthos! The sad thing is, I just ordered one yesterday. And now Tnek says they don't even work on the 09 SRT's

<---I love how this guy pauses to catch his breath!

Re: Group Buy - Predator & 180 Thermostat

Hehe, yea I like that emoticon too.

You're right, the Predator doesn't support the '09 model year just yet. But i'm sure support for it is right around the corner - at least for automatics. I'm just a little hesitant to drop $400 on a predator when I have no idea what the time frame is from '09 support let alone support for the manual transmission (which is a whole new transmission that DiabloSport hasn't developed a tuner for I believe).

I'm just going to wait until '09 6-speed support is announced before I buy. As soon as DiabloSport confirms support for '09 6-speeds I'll be ordering one immediately.

Don't they have a predator version for the Corvette and Viper? Same TR6060Transmission right (different gearing)? I'm hoping to disable the skip-shift feature with it as well.

Couldn't find a Predator for a Viper but looks like you're right about the Corvette. Still, Dodge/GM computer stuff is entirely different. I hope support comes swiftly, though.

Re: Group Buy - Predator & 180 Thermostat

I'm not 100% sure of the purpose. Some say it is fuel economy, others say it helps with emissions. Either way it sounds annoying. Here is what it does.

When the car detects that you are driving lightly, it will display a skip-shift indicator. You start of in 1st like normal, but then it forces you to shift straight from 1st to 4th gear by locking out 2nd & 3rd with a solenoid.
At least that is how it was explained to me. If anyone else knows for sure, please correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Group Buy - Predator & 180 Thermostat

Yep, SKiDs is right. It's a trick used by car companies to "force" the car to shift to a higher gear more quickly if it's being driven gently and thus force it to get better MPG. Accordingly, they get a better MPG rating from the EPA and the consumer saves on Gas Guzzler tax (The skip-shift is responsible for us saving $400 on gas guzzler tax from $2,100 to $1,700)

The whole reason for wanting to DISABLE it is so that you're not at the mercy of when the skip-shift feature wants to block you out of 2nd/3rd gear and you can just shift as you want when you want. Though if you have your foot in it at every single light you'll never hit the skip-shift feature ;P
