Thumbs up Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

I did a little peeking around in the Chevy and Mustang forum for ****z and giggles and I was surprised in what I found..
Many from both Chevy and Ford are viewing this forum and or joining out of interest and as every car guy knows its good to know your competitor.
Maybe some of you have noticed many new faces here in this forum the past few days the SRT8 is the reason!

Its great they all cross over I find it actually refreshing lines havent been drawn yet.Cool cars always bring people together !

Many are very concerned about the SRT8 emerging onto the scene there is alot of talk on who will beat who and so on but one thing I find interesting is not many are stacking the cars side by side to compare what you get for your dollar.
The SRT8 is what really has them all buzzing and they all seem to compare it with the GT500 isnt the GT500 a 50k + car in cost?
Right there the SRT8 has an advantage but HP vs HP the Mustang GT500 hands down has the advantage and I have to agree unless the SRT8 has a few well placed mods then it should be real close.
Ive watched the mustangs at the track they dive deep into the corners and have unimpressive pickup, from what I have seen of the SRT8 on the track I see no suspension dip at all and thats during high speed cornering.
Plus, the srt8 really is geared to bring you right up to speed before the next bend, this is very comforting for such a heavy car to know it can handle like this.
This means better lap times with out a doubt but in a straight the GT500 has it hands down I feel, and actually the only other car Id consider besides the Challenger would be the GT500 in my opinion they are great cars.Just a little to small for me on the interior side.

It will be a fun summer for those of you who get your 08 and us waiting for an 09 I guess well see next summer.
Rumors are Ford has something up there sleeve for 2010 and as far as the camaro was concerned its getting the ls3 and most found it not a threat at allunless they load the ls7 or ls9 into the car then watch out.

All of this speculation is interesting now the mustang isn't the new kid on the block anymore competition is a good thing.
Ill just be happy driving my SRT8 to the local ice cream stand hope there isn't many GT500's out there..LOL..
I still think the Dodge really hit its mark on the design of the new challenger that is my main drawing point to the car, next is the performance.

One thing going thru my mind all the time is in a day and age when $$$$$$$$ is so tight and getting tighter by the week how can all these kids afford these cars.
Leaseing?

The muscle car wars are heating up guys that is forsure I never thought Id ever see this again in my lifetime..

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

I think the 09 SRT Challenger will surpass $50k fully optioned. Base $37995 + option grp I $1500 + option grp II $1500 + trak pak $2100 + gas guzzler $2100 + myGIG $890 + sunroof $795 + destination $700 + tax $2998 = $50578. Granted, I am just guessing at the option prices, but I doubt it's too far off.

I just ordered by 2009 RT yesterday with almost all options and I'm guessing the final price will be pushing $40k. Let's hope Dodge keeps the prices affordable - we need the RT base price in the upper 20's and the trak pak option needs to be reasonably priced.

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

There is no sound group I for SRT8s, just group II. Also, trak pak is about $800.

A fully optioned '09 SRT8 automatic is going to come real close to a fully optioned '08 SRT8 automatic if not identical pricing. They literally have the same options fully loaded. Total cost w/tax will be about $45k

The only difference is if you fully load 6-speed manual you need to add on $800 to the vehicle cost.

It's definitely not going to be anywhere near 50k even fully optioned -- $45-46k at absolute max including tax/etc.

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

For reference, the one dealer that quoted me MSRP + $5k for a fully loaded '08 SRT8 did all the math and the total cost (WITH the $5k added on to vehicle price, thus taxable) hit $50,047 on the nose.

So unless you're getting screwed with a markup, your car won't come close to $50k

(I yanked my deposit from this dealer a few weeks back, btw. I'm going with an '09)

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

I ordered a 09 Challenger R/T with no options and I'm hoping the price comes in well under thirty grand, we will see if thats the case.

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

Bob told me when i ordered my car, and thats with every option, that i would be close to $43k before taxes. All of his prices are still tentative, but he said they should be very close. And now im gonna do away with the sunroof, which is about $850 option. So my price will be even lower.

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

Yep that sounds about right. My '08 fully optioned was ilke $41,900 before taxes and stuff -- just straight vehicle price. Like I mentioned if you then add the $800-900 6-speed w/trak pak onto that it comes out to just short of $43k (like Bob suggested).

I am like you, though, and nixed the sunroof from my option list. Primarily because I think the car (especially if you get a car that's not black) looks much better without it interrupting the lines of the roof. Especially in the context of muscle car appearance.

Before I get flamed, that is a personal preference. By no means do I think it looks "bad" with a sunroof. I just prefer without.

The side-bonus of nixing the sunroof is, again like you said, the cost is basically identical again to a fully loaded automatic.

Re: Have you guys checked out the Chevy and Mustang forums

i totally agree with you on the sunroof. It looks good, but looks better without it on the cars that arent black.
