Re: headers for 09 R/T manual challenger

There's no doubt you'll be able to get them. How long you have to wait remains to be seen. Since the R/T Challenger will have the updated 5.7L Hemi and that married to a manual transmission for the first time, its unlikely anyone will have 'em ready right away. Any vendors out there know any better?

Re: headers for 09 R/T manual challenger

I would wait to see what the exhaust really is before buying headers. I am wondering where the extra 25-35 ponies come from. The 08 5.7 is rated between 340-350 hp the 09 is 370-375. There probably will be a shorty header from the factory. Like the 6.1

Re: headers for 09 R/T manual challenger

I believe most of the hp gains came from the variable cam timing that they added, which also increased gas mileage too.

Re: headers for 09 R/T manual challenger

Can variable valve timing do that much? I will have to read up on it....

Edit Great read at WIKI......I never thought about the inneficency of the valvetrain being much of an issue. Other than the 08 Viper this will be DCX's first year with this product. I do not know if I want to be a gunea pig for the first year Chrysler product again!

Re: headers for 09 R/T manual challenger

Besides the variable valve timing, the 5.7 Hemi has an expanded MDS operating range, an increased compression ratio, improved port flow, and reduced restriction exhaust and induction. Other updates are crankshaft structural upgrades, a dual-mass crankshaft damper, floating pin piston design, valve spring design and increased oil pump capacity.

yep... and there is a GREAT write up in the August issue of Mopar Action (magazine p.52) about all of the changes to the 5.7L. Cool stuff!! See the cover here http://www.moparaction.com/Next/next.html The same issue also has great info on the coming '09 Challengers.

yea variable valve time is a great thing. it can widen the power band dramatically, as well as increase the peak output of an engine. But like you said, with this being the first year on the 5.7, i will not be testing it out for chrysler. I always seem to get the lemon in those situations.

I would say about 2-3 months after the 09 with 6 speed is released that you will start seeing headers pop up in the aftermarket. I think the bell housing may be shaped a little different, so it may have to be routed slightly different than the automatic setup. Other than that, there shouldnt be any issues preventing them from making the headers.
