I have a brand new 2016, base model and today some guy pulled up in the lane next to me and just decided that my lane looked more comfortable... So he decided to scoot on In. He must've forgot I was already in it so I gave him a nice little warning honk. He didn't care and kept coming in my lane. He basically ran me off the road and to avoid hitting another car I had to quickly turn into a gas station on the side of the road. Idk if gas stations where you live are like this, but ours here in Michigan have this bump, then incline up, as a driveway to get into the gas station area. It's like a little ramp. No... It's not like a big ramp that you could jump but my point is that I hit this thing going kinda fast. I don't remember my speed but it wasn't too crazy considering I had to make a full right turn to get into it. I didn't hear it scrape at all, so my question is: In a challenger would you easily hear it if you bottomed out, and is the suspension strong enough to keep the car up on a semi big bump?
Underneath the car is a plastic cover that protects the oil pan and other critical items. If you want to peek under the car you can see if that cover has a big ol scrape on it. If it doesn't then that much is good. As far as hitting bumps like that. If you didn't bend a wheel, or if your strut is not leaking, and your steering wheel is still straight then I would surmise that you are probably good to go. I have hit a few bumps and even spun out once while running around a track and everything is still good to go. When you are out driving around just make sure your car stays straight and goes where you tell it. Your alignment would probably be the only issue. I think you would know pretty quickly if anything else was broken. Being a base model you have a good bit of sidewall to absorb some bumps. Running 20" or 22" inch wheels with extremely short sidewalls would be a big problem hitting bumps at high speeds.
Oh, believe me! You will know when you bottom out. It sounds like a train wreck. I was stuck in traffic on a busy highway and knew I had miles to go before any attempt at an exit would be available. I saw a grass divider where I could make an 'easy exit" and u-turn it out of there. The scrape of my undercarriage going off the 5 inch curb, made me cringe about my stupid decision.
