I would love to have a Mr. Fusion too...
But we gotta think within our current reality.

I wonder how many CO2 cartridges it would take to send this car down a 1/4 mile.

Re: Hot Rod Diesel?

I am considering the LPG or CNG powered Hemi for the near future. These are proven alternatives with much lower pricing that could be used. Under the right modifications to the engine we could see similar or higher horsepower ratings. The only real problem I see with this is the fact that there is no infrastructure in place to refuel easily. Well that and most people do not want to give up the muscle car sound of the deep dual exhaust systems. Maybe we should consider methane gas, I am sure there is plenty of that around and if not, just eat some good beans.

I can just see us all putting trailer hitches on and tagging along coal trailers. Guess we will also need to install cattle guards too.

Mercedes has a 2.1L diesel coming this year that pushes 368 ft-lbs of torque. A simple chip/tune would push that close to 500 ft-lbs on a simple 2.1L TDI engine!

Take that same technology and place it in a 4-5L diesel in the challenger and you'd be looking at over 800 ft-lbs torque with a tune.

The diesels are coming. They won't be well accepted today, but they'll gain acceptance over the next five years. MUCH more power and better gas mileage... and if someone can figure out to get an affordable high rev diesel (5-7k rpms vs. 3-4k rpms)... then the power start to get really crazy.

Re: Hot Rod Diesel?

Diesel.
Not sure what its like where you all live, but up here diesel is about $1.30 a litre. thats $4.91 a us gallon or $5.90 a canadian gallon.

compare to gas prices at: $4.46 us gallon and $5.36 canadian gallon

I've also heard some interesting info that suggests all the diesels and bio-diesels and ethanols are actually worse for the environment than gas!! some are just as bad coming out of the car while others pollute more in the refining process than you save in the car. interesting.....
