Wink How to Make Challenger a Success

If the new Challenger is to be successful (and competive with the Mustang and the Camaro), I think that DCX should build at least 50,000+ cars a year.

To reach this target, they should have a diverse line of cars, similar to that of the 1970-1971 models, when you had SEs, RTs, TAs, etc. and the engines went all the way from 225 slant sixes to 426 Hemis.

For 2008/2009, they should offer an SXT with the 3.5 L and 5-speed autostick starting at $21,000, an R/T with the 5.7 Hemi and 5-speed autostick for $28,000, an SRT with the 6.1 Hemi and 5-speed autostick for $38,000, and a 'Cuda with the 6.4 Hemi and 6-speed (Viper) manual for $45,000.

I think that it would be a big mistake for DCX to limit the Challenger to a limited run of R/T or SRT models.

Re: How to Make Challenger a Success

More like:

SE -- 2.7l 5speed auto -- 21k
SXT -- 3.5l auto-- 26k
R/T -- 5.7 Auto or 6speed -- 32k
T/A -- 6.1l Auto or 6 speed -- 38k
SRT -- 6.4 Auto or 6speed -- 45k

All Challengers. The Plymoth line is over. Why would they build two identicle cars with two different names, under the Dodge name?

Why? One word- profits.

'Cudas are one of the most sought after 1970s muscle cars- even more so than the Challenger. The name has always symbolized "hard core performance." Although Plymouth is "dead," the resurrection of this name in a limited production high performance (500 hp+) model would send sales and profits through the roof!

Check out the Members Gallery and look at all the photoshop drawings of a fantasized 'Cuda model. (It would have a diferent front grill, different rear light panel, and front fender louvers). If we would take a poll, most would vote for a 2009/2010 'Cuda model.

I agree a "Cuda" would be cool. But a "limited" anything does not send profits for the company anyware. They would have to sell alot of Cuda's to justify the design and tooling required to build them. I doubt DCX would resurect the Plymoth name for one limited production car. I doubt they would rebadge a LX as a Road Runner.

Even if they came out with a limited version of an SRT-8 Challenger, with Cuda accents (Shaker, quarter pannel stripes, etc), it will still be a Dodge Challenger. Like the "Super Bee" SRT-8 Charger.

I do believe that there will be a 6.4l 500+ hp version available, although it also will be a Challenger.

That first one ain't cutting it and would not be worthy of the Challenger nameplate: a Se with a 2.7 turtle power set-up..nope ! As for 'Why would they build two identical vehicles with the Dodge nameplate' ! Well they already are with the Charger and now the new Avenger; although being slightly smaller ,the Avenger looks so close to the Charger.
