How many here do all their work themselves?

I was never a car guy before the Challenger came along and the extent of my experience working on cars is changing an alternator and starter, fuel filters and a couple oil changes in my old Bronco (god rest her soul). But I plan on getting my hands dirty with the Challenger when it finally comes. There are a few mods I want to do relatively soon, like a catch can, CAI and a strut tower brace (is that what they're called?). All those seem fairly easy to do and I plan on doing them myself. I am going to take very good care of this car (which will set a precedent for me lol), and would really like to be able to do all the maintenance stuff on my own. I am very technically and mechanically inclined so I'm sure I'll be able to pick up on things with relative ease. In general, how easy is this car to work on? Who does all their work themselves?

I do all my own work. The great thing about this forum is, there seems to allways be someone who has been down [ that road ] and can point you in the right direction.

Yeah I've been doing a LOT of reading, specifically on this forum and a lot of people here seem very knowledgeable and eager to give advice. I know CT is going to be a great tool for me to be able to learn all I can about the Challenger. My kind of place.

How many here do all their work themselves?

I'm thinking along the same lines. I want to know this car inside and out. I've never been much of a mechanic but if there a set of instructions, I can get by. I'm thinking of taking some automotive repair night classes at my local JC. And I've already downloaded the book they use in those classes; Automotive Repair, 4th edition by Tim Gilles.

I do as much as I can by myself, as a single guy in the Marines without a garage (living in the barracks) it can be difficult, they do have a hobby shop with all the tools and some techs there but sometimes getting a stall is a pain so taking it to have someone do it for you is easier, plus I get free oil changes so why even bother... and I did have someone else paint the hood because the hobby shops paint booth isnt heated and would have cost me to use plus the paint so I wasnt that far ahead vs paying someone else... all other mods have been done by me though. I like knowing that I created the end product! Agree on taking some classes at a CC or JC thats my plan, actually thinking of using my GI bill to go to UTI after I get out this summer just to learn more, not even interested in working somewhere as a mech...

I've done all the mods myself with the exception of things that need a shop to do - spring replacement, alignment, tire/wheel mounting & balancing, exhaust shop to cut and weld pipes, etc. I took auto shop in high school oh so many years ago and have worked on my cars all my life. It depends on what needs to be done and if I have the tools and time to do it.

I've installed the Hurst shifter, SRT Front Chin Spoiler, cabin lighting, aftermarket stereo/nav system, backup camera, speaker replacement and re-wiring, Ram's Head de-badging, painted coolant tank, painted calipers, horns, splash guards, and a few others I can't think of right now.

I do 2 oil/filter changes then take it to the dealer for the 3rd. This gets a general inspection and records that they have seen the car.

I also rotate the tires when needed and do a complete detail on my wheels, clean the calipers, etc.

I'm having a problem with my heated seats right now, but I'm out of bumper-bumper warranty so I'm attempting a fix on that myself.

I have Lifetime Powertrain Warranty so absolutely zero mods are planned for the engine, etc.

I keep a logbook with all maintenance, mods, gas fillups, road trips, etc tracked by date and odometer mileage.

I have worked on every car I have ever owned, some I have built from the ground up. I do not like to let any wrenches but mine be involved with my car. The only things I like to farm out are interior, paint, and body.

I do everything except paint, tuning and warranty.
I installed a Vortech and then later a Magnausson supercharger on my last Challenger.
