Wink How Scarce Will the Challengers Be?

As previously discussed on this forum, it has been said many times that the 2008 Challenger will be produced in fairly limited quantities (Note: only 4,000-5,000 2006 SRT Charger were made). It will also be in great demand and will be expensive (due to dealer "market adjustments").

I have been researching the availability of 2007 Charger SRTs (the only DCX car comparable to the Challenger SRT at this time). By going on www.dodge.com, I have checked on the 5-star Dodge dealer inventories in the following states: PA, NJ, MD, DE, MD, NC, TN, MI, OH, TX, NE, and CA. What I have found is the following:

1. Not all 5-star dealers have SRTs in stock. (Most have R/Ts, however).
2. Those that carry SRTs have only 1-2 in stock (esp. those on the east
coast).
3. Most SRTs are fully loaded (with Options I, II and III)- about $44,000.
4. SRTs are plentiful in southern California. One dealer has 17 and another
12!
5. The best time to buy was Jan.-Feb. (a slow sales time when DCX was
offering a $1,500 rebate).

All of this confirms my decision to wait until Jan.-Feb. 2009 to buy my SRT Challenger. At that time, I will contact numerous dealers on-line and look for a car with minimal options and try to get the best price- even if I have to have the car shipped. (Note: The average cost to ship a car in an enclosed custom car trailer is $.92 per mile).
