Re: Hybrid Challenger???
For the way we drive, we'll never see any gains from Hybrids.
I thought about for a while and know a few people with Hybrids and the fact is that as soon as you get into the gas pedal, the Hybrid turns off and goodbye gains. Unless you drive like a great great grand mama, it won't do much.
The best way to enjoy a Challenger body with economy is to get the 3.5 V6 and put on Zoomers dual exhaust (or another free flow dual exhaust) like the Charger guys do with their 3.5 V6 SXT Chargers. If you can get headers, even better. At that point it will be very loud with headers though and may sound strange even with the Zoomers (the Zoomers sounds really good with the V6 otherwise) so perhaps the addition of two resonators will help or just put on the V8 factory resonator box which covers the dual pipes but I don't think that component will fit on V6 size pipes. The duals may account for two mpg city and as much highway. The headers may yield as much as well.
Another addition is to put on an MSD blast ignition high voltage ignition system for better spark. This should ad a mpg and perhaps two on the highway.
Cold Air Induction for the 3.5 will help too, perhaps 2 in the city and 2 on the highway but less if you just get the K&N filter put in.
Another thing to add is the fuel-miser atomizer that does something to the fuel but I have no idea if this works or if it is a scam. It may fall in the same category as the Tornado which Popular Science proved didn't work and may cause harm to the motor from metal debris entering the motor. I would go for the fuel miser before the Tornado. Either way, the above proven mods will help and also if you keep the car at 55mph on the highway like the old days when the limits were 55 during the 70s and early 80s energy crisis to save fuel. You might see gains on the highway regardless of what car and mods you have.
I would install a limited slip rear on a 3.5 Challenger though as the 3.5 after all those mods will be more than capable of a few good healthy for the heart fishtails. I used to fishtail at ease (in the rain but also in the dry by locking the open axle 2.29:1 rear by downshifting the stage II shift kit trans into first during a quick corner turn) a 3300lb 1978 2dr Chevrolet Malibu Classic with a 5.0L 2bbl V8 with 150hp and 250lb ft of torque. I eventually modded that small block to produce 225hp and 300lbs ft of torque with the usual hot rod pieces except for stock heads and exhaust manifolds.
