IF Dodge does not build the Challenger

I am holding out on the Challenger. IT has been my dream to own either a Challenger or a Cuda since I was a teenager. My girlfriends dad owned a 1970 'cuda with a 440 six pack. It had uncapped headers and I can remember the sound it made on the occasion he would start it up in the driveway. I got to ride in it once. Across town to their new house. We where cruising about thirty threw our small town and he punched it in second gear. Their was a split second lag as the outside two carbs opened the engine roared and the back end broke loose white smoke enveloped the rear of the car and all I could smell was burning rubber. I have been hooked on Mopar ever since. A few monthe later I paid 550 bucks for my first car. A 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring with a 400.

Ever since I have vowed that I would somehow obtain an old 'cuda or a challenger. I have graduated from college and can now "almost" afford the luxury of purchasing my very own "muscle car".......WOW can you believe the timing, Dodge has built the Challenger concept. If they build it even close to what the concept looks like and with the options that the concept has I can get my dream car. Not only my dream car but it will be brand new. All the creature comforts that the older cars did not have. I am waiting.

If Dodge does not build this concept or they mess it up much like they did the Charger, what will I do? More so than simply owning a Challenger or Mopar I want a loud, powerful V-8, that I can afford and only has two doors.

Will Chevy build their retro Camaro? I have never been a big Chevy fan but that concept looks pretty sharp. Mustang has got some pretty coo cars out right now. The muscle car era has returned and as much as I hope Dodge builds the Challenger concept I will go another way if it is a dissapoinment.

Re: IF Dodge does not build the Challenger

I am right there with ya. With a +20 or so years on you though..

I have always admired the muscle cars but did not want something that was going to be continually breaking down or the floorboards rusting thru or handled like sh*t.

I was real excited to hear the GTO was making its way back to only be disappointed with the size & styling. I liked the Charger and almost put money down on a SRT8. Then I saw the Challenger and knew nothine else would do and I would be kicking myself everytime I saw one on the road if I were to buy something else.

But I have to say, that all this waiting on any official news is making me like the car less. Now others like the Camaro (which they said they will build but it is years away from production) and the GT500 are looking better. If Pontiac were smart, they would put a new skin on the GTO and would have a great competitor before Dodge can even say its a go.

So I sit and wait and look at the same old same old on the board waiting for the day that some news comes. But I will NOT wait forever...

Re: IF Dodge does not build the Challenger

I think we will hear some news (good or bad) after "Chryslers @ Carlisle" in July. I'll be going down to the show to see the Challenger again. (I've heard it will be there). I can't see why they wouldn't show it off at such a huge Mopar event! I'm praying for retro colors, a 392 Hemi, and a white interior. Throw in an option for "dog dish" caps with steel wheels and I will put all the DCX board members in my will!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: IF Dodge does not build the Challenger

If no Challenger then my next purchase will be the Shelby GT 500. Anyway, I think the Challenger will be hard pressed to approach the Shelby in numbers. Unless DCX can lighten the load and up the engine the Shelby with its 500HP will have the edge. Looks wise though Challenger all the way. The Shelby still looks too much like a Mustang GT.

Re: IF Dodge does not build the Challenger

If Chrysler doesn't build the Challenger I will be severely disappointed. I won't say that I'll never buy a Chrysler product again... but I will be much less likely to buy one. I would probably buy a Caliber R/T, or a new 3.5L Charger right now if they offered an MTX, but nooooo....

I love MTX... I won't buy an ATX until the Imperial is released... and even then I wont' buy it until I can afford to have a second car, with an MTX installed. Chrysler has some awesome cars... but I'm just not interested in a car that has ATX as the only option.
