Import or American Classic?

I have been so excited over the Challenger concept car since in came out. I was in the process of withdrawing my deposit for the new GT500 for this work of art and hoped that it would have the color option of “sublime green”. BUT it ran through my mind that even though the Dodge Challenger is an American icon for motor heads, it is now an import…..matter of fact all Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles are now imports. I’m sorry but I’m from the old school and will NOT purchase a foreign car. Just wanted your feedback on this issue

Re: Import or American Classic?

you can call them imports because the chassis are based on MB, but I don't think anything else other than that except for the tranny..

Re: Import or American Classic?

I'm really looking at the big picture...that Dodge is owned by a German company and not an American Company and they are making us (americans) think that we are buying an American Muscle car

Re: Import or American Classic?

no car is 100% made in america good luck finding one i think the only brand is saleen probably but i doubt it.

Ford owns like 20% of mazda and they get some of their parts from mazda.... so your gt500 isn't an american car either.

Re: Import or American Classic?

There's no such thing as a pure American car anymore. All GM cars that are sold in the US are made in Canada (except corvette). Ford F150 is made in Canada (along with other cars, i'm sure). And of course, all cars now use a mix of parts that come from many other countries (fuel injectors, etc).

Re: Import or American Classic?

Yes, all very sad..too bad our Capitalist way of this country [greed] has to ruin things, and other influences,,then we showed the Japanese [ for example] how to do it [ and they're experts at copying] and reliability exceeds us.plus the European makers..quality and engineering surpases America these days...well it'd be nice if DCX and the Old Dodge Boys with the Challenger can somehow revive the days of old..the American way..for truth,,justice and the SuperHemi !!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Import or American Classic?

Good thread, great answers. as previously stated, NOTHING is all American in the car industry anymore. post WWII quality is gone. I too am an "all American" kinda guy, but in reality, it's just not possible to purchase products built completely here in the states. sorry! if you want a true American vehicle, you have to buy a classic (God, I love my Super Bee!!!!!!)
