Question Insurance

I was watching the "My Classic Cars" TV show last night and they were discussing classic car insurance.

The head of Grundy Insurance stated that his company can provide excellent insurance for new and older classic cars at 1/2 the price of other companies (free on-line quotes).

In addition, he stated that there is no mileage limitation. The only stipulation is that your classic car must be a 2nd car (i.e., not used as your primary car).

I was wondering if this type of insurance would be a good alternative (i.e., cheaper) to a standard auto policy for the new Challenger?

Re: Insurance

It depends on how much you will drive the Challenger. And I have to believe that there will be some limitations, such as not driving it to work. Just about every company that insures pleasure cars has some restrictions. It certainly would be worth looking into. I have my '68 Riviera and '71 Satellite wagon insured thru Hagerty. They have an agreed amount policy, which is the only way to go. It's very reasonable, but they do have some restrictions.

Re: Insurance

The policy allows for unlimited mileage. The only restriction is that the car must not be your primary vehicle. You must prove that you have another car that will be used for daily commuting.

What if you or a person is in a situation where you don't have another /primary vehicle ; either due to financial reasons ? Also, what about this : say a person takes public transportation [ for work ] and /or is able to walk to work and/or to go shopping { which I realize is not for the majority and for most just isn't possible [ i.e. lives way out or on dirt/gravel roads ]...} .

Re: Insurance

In 2004 I sold my '98 S-10 and picked up a new '04 GTO. My insurance went from $60/mo to $70/mo. Not worth the worries in my opinion.

Here is a quote from Grundy Insurance's website (www.grundy.com):

"Is Collector's Insurance Right For you?

Grundy Worldwide's underwriters can insure almost any collector vehicle you own regardless of year or model. Collector vehicles must be used for show, hobby, and pleasure purposes only. They should be owned in addition to vehicles used for daily transportation for all operators in your household, and can be in excellent original or restored condition."
