Re: Just drove an SRT manual prototype

Mileage should be better on the 6-speed car too. Since you have the double overdrive.

Re: Just drove an SRT manual prototype

You will have a lot taller final transmission gear but the rear end will be geared lower in the 6-speed than with the autostick. Therefor, the MPG for the auto and the stick should be a wash. Are there any published EPA mileage numbersfor the 6.1 with the manual? Like I said earlier the 6-speed will be a BLAST, MEGA FUN!! But for me personally, that fades big time in city/rush hour traffic. I will throw in a positive item in favor of the 6-speed. Long trem cost of ownership will be better with the 6-speed. It will be $$$ cheaper to replace a fried clutch that a burnt automatic.

I calculated some numbers awhile back on what your rpms would be in the 6speed vs the auto tranny. Here were some of my results:

6 speed was calculated using a 3.91 rear ratio, and the auto was calculated using a 3.06 rear

...............6 speed..............Automatic
Gear.....Speed....RPM.......Speed.....RPM
5th......60mph....2017......60mph.....1800
6th......60mph....1354......N/A.........N/A
6th......80mph....1800......N/A.........N/A
5th......50mph....1726......51mph.....1500
5th......40mph....1380......41mph.....1200

Re: Just drove an SRT manual prototype

Would you agree from the data you crunched that the auto should come out the better on fuel economy? I recall from one of the recent test, Edmunds maybe, that they "observed" 19 mpg while they had the car. The EPA posted range on the automatic is 13 city 18 hyw. I would LOVE to get 19 in it!! (but I can't really see that being possible) What are your thoughts......

Re: Just drove an SRT manual prototype

in the city the auto should be better, but i believe the 6 speed would do better on the highway because it has much lower RPM's; but thats not always good for achieving mileage because sometimes its too much strain on the motor. So its hard to say until a road test is done on that setup. I will say, on my 06 Charger SRT, I had the cruise on 85mph for a 1100 mile trip. I averaged about 22.5mpg overall (thats on 4 different fill ups)

Also, my average mpg is between 18-19. Thats with about 70% highway driving.

Re: Just drove an SRT manual prototype

I have and still am amazed at the mpg my c5 achieves in 6th gear.
32-28 mpg at 75 mph isnt bad at all depending on wind and incline.

The challenger will be a whole new world for me to explore and Ill have to have an oil well in my yard soon I feel just to keep her on the road but its still better than the originals mpg.
I figure if I average 15 mpg Ill be one happy camper but I fear it may be like 10-12 mpg in real world stats.
I wonder if the cam would help mpg a bit???

You will do better than 15 i promise. I get 18-19 easily, and thats with very aggressive driving on my part. You wont come near that 28 number though. The worst I have gotten was 17.1mpg

Re: Just drove an SRT manual prototype

That is the news I wanted to hear I never thought to ask you how your charger did on mpg.Thank you man for that info.
That is very comforting as fuel is going to 4.00 here a gallon its at 3.90 right now!
18 is very livable by all means not great but damn good!
2010 it will be at you ready 5.50-6.50 at least.
For those who want a 6.4 good luck!
