General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
just called one of my local dealerships. he explained to me that DC has not allowed them to open a waiting list. the best they have is a "waiting to order" list, on which they are placing the names of people who are interested to call when the dealership can start taking orders.
This says to me, that the guys that say they've put money down or ordered one. That, this is just the dealer taking there money...Maybe I call the guy I purchased my srt ram from tomarrow, see what he has to say.
I seriously doubt you will see a dealer get MSRP on this car EVER. I expect they will add $5-10k in the 1st couple months. Heck, I figured I might have an "in" as my brother in law is the marketing director for a multiline dealership group in Phoenix & Tucson. He told me 1st come 1st serve and they will charge all they can for a Challenger...no deposits. They tried that once and salespeople (rightly) sold to the client on the lot rather than the one on the list. (Bird in the hand...) My plan is to save my duckets and pay cash. I have $14k saved so far and plan on having about $35k by spring of '08. Hopefully the "actual" price will fall somewhere in that range for a 6.1L Hemi equipped Challenger. BTW - I can almost bet I leapfrog the list of those with deposits when I walk in with greenbacks.
Well I talked to the guy that sold me my SRT-10 ram today. He said they have'nt been informed of anything yet. He knows basically what we know, that It will be released as a 2008. He DID say expect to pay 15k over msrp. I told him thats about what I was expecting. I offered him a down payment. He was'nt accepting any money for challengers at this time! He told me he would call me when he hears anything new. I kinda gotta call B.S. on you guys that say you've put money down, or your dealers are kinda shady if you have.
As stated before, I'm 3rd on a waiting list at a dealer I've done business with for a long time. There is always a chance that I will not get one but this way I have a better chance then most people. The $1k check I put down will not be cashed. It is just a promissory note so the dealer knows I'm serious. There is no date set for picking out the options and color, just a guess of around 2-3 months. Based on dealer order allocations time frames this is consistent for next year’s releases. They promised MSRP which is estimated at $43K (fully loaded) and I believe them. All said, I hope to get one. If not, there is always that little Lotus that sounds like a fun car to drive. I'll keep everyone posted on how things are going.
I have a promise from my dealer that I will get first shot at their first SRT8. I've known both the dealer and the salesperson for a long, long time. If they screw me, that's their business. I want this car, but I don't have to have this car. I can spend my money elsewhere or wait til the craziness dies down.
