General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
You wanna play you, well you know the rest. If you want a srt8 your gonna pay close to 60 k. You want a plain jane 5.7 hemi your gonna pay 45K. The shelbys are going for 12k over sticker right now.
It all depends on the dealer. Last December I was shopping for a SRT8 Charger. Dealers in TX did not have them on the lots but had some on the way in various build stages. All were selling at sticker and that is what I expect to pay for the Challenger as well.

I hope you are wrong about the markup even though it's all speculation right now. The Shelby is not a high volume production model and may be able to support a premium price for awhile. I think with the Camaro coming and the Mustang alive and kicking the price will get more competitive after a year or so. I hate to...but I may sit back and wait a bit before buying mine.
I placed a deposit yesterday. There is no information yet as to price, options or colours. I had one dealer in Brampton tell me tht he had heard that the first colours would be white, sublime and plum crazy. Wishful thinking probably.
My agreement with the dealer is that when they know more information, they will get with me to firm up or return deposit. I am number 8 on his list at the moment. They expect to have no problems meeting allocation requirements.
The salesman also said that only 5 star dealers would get any allocations.
I do not need this car, so if it is not to my liking, then I can walk away.

The Shelby is a VERY high production vehicle. Slated production for the initial model year (07) is 9000 units. Put that into perspective towards the limited Chargers (Mango/Banana Daytonas are 4000 units Torred Daytona is 2000 units & the Super Bee SRT8 is 1000 units). NOW think about how "limited" 9000 really is. The good thing about people paying premiums for the GT500 is, however, they know that model is the top dog & will be for quite awhile.
I hope you guys all get the models you wish for but if I have any words of advice I'd say wait for the 09 model year when the upgraded model is released. I hate to say it but the models you guys are all putting down payments on are going to be the base models. Are you all forgetting the PT Cruiser frenzy of just a few years back? Everyone & their mother talked about how they had to have one and how "limited" they'd be (there's that word again, "LIMITED").
The Challenger excitement will calm down a mere 6-9 months after the first few hundred start hitting lots. I was one of those suckers who HAD to have the new 425hp version of the charger with all the bells & whistles. I got screwed & paid well over sticker for mine... It happens with every new & exciting model but so be it... I got what I wanted with the top of the line model.
To all you jumping the gun out there... think about what a 2005 300C SRT8 means to you. Nothing? Well for 288 (I think..?) owners, it meant you owned one. There were that few made & when they were ordered they were impossible to get your hands on one. Now that 2006 flooded the market with SRT8s the prior year models don't mean a darn thing except that they're 1 year older than most. So don't go dropping your kid's college funds on a down payment when in 1 year your challenger (which might have been the 1st in town) is nothing but dodge's version of the mustang & seen on every street corner.

Well said.
I tried calling the workers building the Prowler..... no answer. I then tried calling the people at the Chevy SSR plant, I knew they would answer because it's a limited vehicle and it's a must have vehicle also...again no answer.
They must be so busy building these gotta have vehicles they don't have time to answer there phone's...I'll keep trying.

There will be something special about having one of the first Challengers scooting around on the road. Even if it is just a base model.
It sounds like a good deal of the people on here who have put down deposits know the dealership they're dealing with, and have a pretty good idea that they're not going to get gouged.
So at least people are thinking it through! Plus, that means plenty of people are going to buy them and I will get to see one on the road...

The GT500 is eh, I saw 3 of them today alone. The Charger SRT's are sitting on my local dodge dealers lots right now and have been for months.
The Chally will break out of the gate fast but in a year, you will have your pick of the litter. I dont care what car it is after a year the hype is over and you can name your price.
In S Fla the Porsche dealer has 3 pre owned C-GT's on the lot and two in the showroom.at $450K per. I was looking at the CGT and before I knew it they had a lease deal worked up for me and the keys on the desk w/ a pen next to the paper work. Be cool hold on and you will get your Chally for a grand under MSRP
I don't want this to come off the wrong way, but... Erik, you own a Kia, a Daewoo, a Hyundai and you were looking at Carrera GTs?? I find it hard to believe a dealer would even waste their time trying to push a car of that expense on anyone less than someone who pulled up in a car already of that status. No disrespect but... come on!

Well, a good salesperson would want to talk to anyone who came to the dealership and feel them out. There are people in the world who intentionally go to classy stores/dealerships wearing or having "less than classy" stuff - just to see how they'll be treated. So, technically they should treat someone in a Daewoo the same way they treat someone in a Ferrari.
That being said... it rarely happens in real life. When I was shopping for my SRT-4, I went to every dealership wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Cause it's not like I was buying a Maybach. I was 28 at the time, probably looked closer to 23. Sure enough, every time I walked on a lot they sent the youngest, most punk salesperson they had on the floor. It was ridiculous.
