Wink Keep the Weight Off

As reported on newhemitech.com, DCX is apparently making an effort to keep the weight down on the new Challenger:

"...if the floor pan is any indication it shouldn't be that heavy. The floorpan is like paper! .060 sheelmetal. Trans tunnel is a little thicker."

Re: Keep the Weight Off

God that would be great. Hopefully they can bring it in at 3700-3800. Anything lighter than that you go exotic with corresponding price increases.

Maybe they heard our pleas after all.

Re: Keep the Weight Off

I agree 37-3800 would be awesome but, I expect it to be closer to 4000 or evben a little higher.

No such luck, #4100. I don't know how they can get it that heavy!!! It will be like dragging Rosey O Donal down the track.

Re: Keep the Weight Off

I feel the same way about the weight on these upcoming cars, but you do have to look at it like this. A good 100-150 lbs of the weight will probably come from the proposed IRS (which I hope is up to the task of putting down the 400+hp ponies that these cars will be making). Most of the weight, though, is coming from the rigid chassis and reinforced frame......trust me, it's not necessarily "needless" weight. DCX could probably shed several hundred pounds off the production version's weight if they were willing to build the chassis with the same rigidity as the old Challengers...........but then, you probably wouldn't wanna drive it.

Me, personally, I'm more concerned with how they intend to keep the "price" down on these cars........more so than the weight.
