If they offered them staggered across a 6 year period they could easily make three (3) sales off the same person! They know the power mongers well, and their tactics are spot on. (I probably couldn't hold out long enough for a 426 though... dang ).
Car probably won't be around in 6 years,..demand and competition's hp is already up to snuff (peaking right now)....nows the time to offer several pkgs. from small to 6.4l,...if they want to release the 6.4l 6 months later,..that would be fine,...but you better leak info that its going to happen. ...Soon! Keeping it one engine choice,..you will lose lower, some mid...and some top hp sales(not good business). The more I think of it,..the more I do not believe allpar's source,...because its not only foolish,..its stupid with no business sense what so ever with one engine choice,...especially when they say they are competing in the mustang(pony car and hp wars)because of their sales and all. I know Ford and Mustang aren't worried,if this news is correct.

There were at least three problems combining in 1973-1974 to create the "perfect storm" that killed the last muscle car era: smog regulation, arab oil embargo, insurance crackdown. There may or may not be another perfect storm brewing on the horizon but at this point it is pure speculation. Fact is, unless something traumatic happens these cars will continue to be sold as long as DCX makes good money off them.

As far as the 392 Hemi goes consider: I was shopping for a high end Camaro in 1996 and it had 270 HP. A decade later we've arrived at 425 HP. The overall trend is upwards, stretched over a long period of time.

Yes there will be a transition period where green cars will replace the gasoline burners but it will be slow and gradual because the infrastructure is nowhere near ready to handle it on a national level. Another possibility is we're headed for a future where all pedestrian cars are green and performance cars are gas powered, but folks like to think in terms of absolutes. All one or the other. People won't give up their gas powered cars until either the oil runs out or there is a viable substitute to replace it (or the govt mandates it which ain't happening given the power oil has on capital hill). Can you seriously see a future without sports cars?? There is still plenty of time for some hotroddin' fun
Tell that to the liberals(they already have been killing our infrastructure for years). With the gas and oil the way it is,..and electric and hybrids coming in,...and a possible new liberal controlled horizon again(impossible restrictions and penalties on auto manf. to produce these kinds of cars we like with our "gas powered" hemi challengers,shelby's,Z06'S..etc)....these kind of cars will not be around for long.....Now that doesn't mean that there won't be any other performance cars,...they'll just be made more "alternative fueled and lookin'cars" of the future....where do I go to throw-up?! ...If your in it to compete today...then compete today!!!...I'm living for today,...not tomorrow!.....Don't put off tomorrow, what you should be doing today!!!....and in 73-74 it was too late!!...The hp had already been sucked out of them,...because of all the pollution crap(hint emissions) and oil(sounds familiar, a little different, but similar).....71 was last hemi with decent hp from the old days version.PLus I don't want to turn this into a political debate,...I want to stay on track with subject at hand......Dcx, don't just offer one engine pkg. only,... as that limits yourself from the overall market....Please release different variants,...with the 6.4l coming out in the srt-8 version for the grand finale' 6 months later(to compete) ...soon please!

That's because we had a goverment in there in recent years that "didn't pass severe restrictions" on all the auto manufactures to meet their demands, oil related or not (like the "liberals will do" when they pass impossible restictions and penalties)...but wait, as the tide is changing,as I have mentioned in my other post! Like I said, I don't want to talk politics,...live for today,...and compete for today!!! Because the "so called brighter tomorrows in the retro muscle car gas fueled market,..might not allow the same opportunities,...they may be more "alternative in nature"...fuel,styling,mileage and emission restictions, liberal goverment, less hp,etc. ...I just hope that allpars source was wrong with only one option,....don't get me wrong,if that was the only choice than soo be it,..as I would and want the new concept challenger to be built,...however,..there is alot smarter ways of doing this, and stay competitive in the pony and hp muscle car war, and have great sales!!

Re: Latest 'Challenger' News

Both parties do agree that ending our dependency on foreign oil is a priority. It will be both parties that bring new mpg requirements. I believe history will repeat itself. The base Corvette with manual trans gets 28 mpg on the highway. SRT 8 gets 20 with $2000 gas guzzler tax. If the manufacturers get into a horsepower war they will bring unfriendly attention to themselves. I had a 94 Z28 with 275 hp, it was a lot of fun. Remember also these hp figures are net not gross figures. 425 hp gross is what about 350 - 375 net.
What is all this love for the 392? We should be happy if they offer the 6.1.
It would be incredibly dumb of DC to offer only one engine. I want to see Challengers everywhere! I will not buy one if I have to pay a $2000 gas guzzler tax!

If,...and I do mean "if" the news from allpar is correct(which I highly doubt with one engine choice). I for one,..am greatly happy that they're even making the challenger (as that point has been stated many times). My concern is the possibility of only one engine choice the 6.1 with a manual,...which to me,..might be the single most ridiculous marketing move I have ever heard of for car sales(that's why I know this allpar info from source, has to be bogus)!....If they were, and are going to compete in the pony car market, you need to look at your competitor, who for one is mustang,...which have 6cyls,...all the way up through the 500hp Shelby GT500,....and in that line-up are manual as well as auto transmissions, engine and hp choices depending on which model,etc.....Dcx needs to follow suit with an array of choices from affordable auto and manual 6cyl,small 8cyl,5.7and/or6.1,...and...the 6.4l(I would dump the 6.1 in favor of the 6.4L version in the srt-8) to compete with their competitors (gt500)...and if they want to bring out the 6.4l as an srt-8 version, 6 months later,..that's great(but you better not wait to long,as you snooze you lose jack).... all I'm saying is, you better get while the gettin' is good with these cars, as you'll lose more than just sales. ...oh ya P.S.- "If" dcx were to make only one model to compete with the ShelbyGt500,...that's even more reason to make it the 6.4 with 500hp....for anything else less... will lose for sure. ....Oh and the difference in groups are: the current group is doing it because of the result from the conflict in Iraq which has driven up cost(cut down dependency),....the "other group" will do it anytime, anyplace anywhere for anything(they as soon as have you drive around in mopeds, not mopars )Their restrictions and penalties are alot worse on auto manufactures)....They have already taken away our gun rights,...you just wait to see what they do with our gas-fueled retro muscle cars,...Lord help us all,...if they get control again. ...sorry back on topic.

Re: Latest 'Challenger' News

DC already have the Viper for their esoteric car. I really do not think they
would keep the Challenger limited. They intend to build this car on the same line as 300/Charger/Magnum. Ford is selling 12,000 Mustangs a month.
They should go after market share.
I would bet a month's pay DC will offer 3.5L, 5.7L and 6.1 with auto or manual.
I'm sure that DC got an earful over the four door Charger, they cannot deny the people what we want!
Anyone notice they sold 8,000 Chargers in January?

BTW, Where is this rumor on Allpar? I could not find it.
