General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
Dodge issues a Challenger: It's official. Dodge will make a production version of the concept from the 06 auto show. Set to hit the dlr lots in late 08 w/ prices from $22k to nearly $40K, it will be built on the LX platform. Expect a base V-6 version for the poseur and two V-8 versions , no doubt the 5.7 and 6.1, no 6.6 DAM IT TO HELL. An optional 6 sp M is being readied as well a first for the LX platform. DCX expects to build fewer than 50K Challengers annually, far less than the nearly 200K Stangs Ford turns out p/yr.
I like that so we won't see each othere at every street corner nor will we be popping up at airport rental car lots a'la the Hertz Shelby.
This could be a deal breaker for me unfort. If the car comes in at 4200 lbs plus, an unproven tranny and only the 6.1 all the while the MSRP is north of $40K I my pass or wait until a 6.6 comes knocking two MY's down the road.
That LS7 500 HP Camaro SS is not looking all that bad, it would rip my heart out though to get it over the Chally. I don't get DCX, w/ the SS,GTO and GT 500 the alarm bells are not only ringing but the sound is deafening at this point. Nobody wants to wait all this time for the car only to be cannon fodder on the street under withering GM/Ford firepower.
No offense, But where exactly did this info come from? As of yet I've heard nothing about DCX producing a V6 Challenger. If they decided to, then I congratulate them. I'll be attempting to shovel forth the cash for the biggest engine I can afford, but not everyone can do the same... And I believe, if patient enough, they Will produce some version of Super Challenger in the future with the 6.6L. If this is indeed true, I see it as Good news, but I would still like a link to the source.

I still can't see the production car weighing 4200 lbs - a Charger doesn't weight quite that much (but pretty damn close), my money is on 3800 lbs or so - still a porker, but that's as much as my GTO weighs. And if the Challenger turns out to be 4200 lbs... in my opinion who the hell cares? I still want it.

Well,I'm not sure where this link came from or who said it,and "IF" it is "soo called" true, than I believe dcx also dropped the ball for the top model of challenger with only the 6.1L. Big mistake!!! And you are correct, they will get swallowed up by gm and ford,"IF'' this is true at the local stoplight. The late 2008 doesn't sound right either, unless its for the srt-8 version. The only good thing(if true), is the 22k lower end models that everyone will be able to afford. That should help with the low end model sales, but at the upper end they'll blow it,...oh they will sell, but not compete stock for stock with top model competition.Maybe they'll wait too the following year for the bigger motor,...I hope so!
Why is everyone so concerned about the reliability of the autostick? It has been used for several years now in DCX's SRT line (300c, Charger, Cherokee, etc.) with no apparent problems.
It be true unfort, the link I posted is fake, read it carefully.
Seriously though it I got it out of this months (The Oct) edition of C&D on pg 34. I have had a script for Car&Driver as well as R&T for 20 yrs (since I was 13) and have come to believe what C & D says Vs say AUTOMOBILE or MotorTrend.
I was under the impression that we were getting the Getrag Viper spec 6 sp tranny but now it says a 6 sp is "being developed" wtf !!!!! why not yank the 6 sp right off the Viper assem line to save money. If it can handle the Viper HP it sure can handle the 6.1 right ??
the top model is not going to be 6.1, that's only the R/T. The SRT or TA (which ever they decide to call it) will be the 6.4 or 6.6 with 500+ (more like 550-580) hp.

How do you know that? That's only speculation at this point unless you have a reliable inside source.
