That loveliest of things, the form letter!!!!
Dear William:
Thank you for your recent email expressing interest in the Dodge Challenger concept vehicle. It is always a pleasure to read an email from a loyal Dodge owner, like yourself. We too are excited about the prospect of bringing the Dodge Challenger to market. We greatly appreciate your feedback on the Dodge Challenger. It is comments like yours that are paramount to longevity of the Dodge brand. Though we cannot guarantee your suggestions will be implemented, we encourage you to continue to contact us through the Dodge website (http://www.dodge.com). Because our industry and the needs of drivers are constantly changing, there is always a possibility of new products being designed to specifically meet needs like yours. Unfortunately, because this vehicle is still in the concept stage, there is no pricing or production data available. Many of our concept vehicles have made it to market, such as the Plymouth Prowler, Dodge Viper, and the Chrysler PT Cruiser. I have documented your interest and will forward it to the product planning department. To view specific information on the Dodge Challenger please visit the link below: http://www.dodge.com/dodge_life/news...hallenger.html If you have further questions, please feel free to use the reply link below. You may also call us on our toll-free number at 1-800-964-0600. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to assist you. Production? Comments: I have owned many Dodge vehicles and at present have an '04 Dakota 4by. (I'm a geologist, its a fabulous field vehicle, and its my second one, Dakota, that is). I also have an aging '93 T-Bird that I was thinking of going through and hopping-up the 302 mill. When I first saw the Challenger Concept in Automobile mag. I put those plans on hold. It took you 6 years to answer the Mustang the first go-around, and by that time who knows how many ponies had already left the barn? I had a '69. My first car. If the rumors I am hearing are even remotely on target, you may, repeat may, build the Challenger in a limited production model in the coming years. Now let me see. Are you planning on repeating history once again? The Challenger was, and now, once again, is, a stunning machine. If it had been on the market in '69, I might still even have it. I bequeathed the '69 to my mother, and kept it in trim for her for 26 years! Take heart in the fact that you do not have to always be third of the US manufacturers. I strongly suspect that if you build this car as a mainstream vehicle, taking Ford, and Chevy (if they really opt to re-introduce the Camaro) head-on, you might just ratchet up a notch. The horses are leaving the barn again in droves. They are all over LA. Retro is in. Compete. The Challenger is stirring, and would be even in V6 trim. All I can tell you is that given the choice of dropping $15-20k on a thorough hop-up of my T-bird, or upping that to ~$40k for an R/T Challenger, the Challenger wins hands-down. Not even a contest. Two days after I saw it, I called my local Dodge dealer (San Juan Capistrano) and told them to put my name on "the list". Three friends did the same within a week. There are a ton of fine modern imports on the market. And many of them have tempted me. Hard. But, for whatever reason, the Challenger concept lit a major smoldering fire in my wallet. I WANT this car. Now, for the record, I despise automatic transmissions. With a passion. But I live and work in LA. And a manual masher here is simply torture. So build it with the 6.1L or 6.4L V8, mate it with a really good automatic, and the deal is done. Come on DCX, you have the technology. You CAN do this. All that I ask is that you tell me this is within reasonable range (time and bucks) and the T-bird is history. Now really, is that too much for a lifetime customer to ask? And please! No drivel. No pat answer to this message. If you tell me I would be better off to go ahead with the Fire Breathin' Bird project, disappointed I will be, but I will move on. But to foist a load of standard text on me will be interpreted as "We really don't care about our loyal customers", and the Bird will get its milleniuim pedigree pronto. You have it, I want it. Will you make it for me? How can that be too much to ask? Is this going to be a bad dream? Just give me some hope here, a little hope please. I WANT this car........... P.S. Twice in the past two decades, I went to buy a Harley. There are currently 3 bikes in the garage, two Beemers and a Moto Guzzi. And with the Dakota, the garage is full. The Bird lives under the tree out front. And twice, once in Denver, and once in LA, I stood around the exact Harley I wanted and could not get a salesman to talk to me. The full purchase price was in a roll in my pocket. And both times, years apart, I walked out and took a cab to the BMW dealer and rode their product home. One of them I still have. That occasioned Mac's First Rule of Economics: "There are people, who have made, enough money." Years later, I coined the Second Rule: "What doesn't makes sense makes dollars for someone." Think about it, give it some thought. |

Afterburner...
If only DCX could have been as eloquent with their 'cookie cutter' response...and yes, sounds like the same responses I've received during the past year as well. ![]() Looking on the 'bright side'...maybe they're just simply overwhelmed with Challenger 'Please Build it Now' requests...that is a good thing. ![]() |

More to the point:
"Objects seen in mirror are disappearing rapidly" "Don't lead the pack if you don't know where you're going" And last but not least is this advice for DCX: "Wipe your mouth! There is still a tiny bit of bullsheen on your lips." Last edited by Afterburner : 05-30-2006 at 09:06 PM. |
