That's the problem with the bean counters. Most people don't want a manual transmission, most people want four doors, etc. When you keep slicing away options, you slice away buyers. Dodge used to build cars with almost any combination of options that were possible. I've seen a factory four on the floor with a Hurst shifter in a station wagon. I remember my Dad going to the dealer when I was a kid and ordering cars with any combination of options he wanted. I haven't bought a new car since 1995 because there haven't been any new cars that I WANTED (other than a Viper which I couldn't afford). Case in point our most recent purchase was a 2004 Intrepid SXT to haul the family. I could have bought a new Charger and had planned on buying one, but I don't buy new four door automatics, I buy them used. I never have seen a four door automatic yet that could get me to take the new car depreciation hit. I need a car, but I don't need a NEW car. I only buy a NEW car when I want one. If they build the Challenger with a manual tranny I will definitely want one! Are you listening Dodge?

Re: Manual Transmission on production car?

no automatic. I hate the fact that the Dakota R/T's were never offered with a Manual option....
And if the 6 spd dosent go in, it's a no-go.... I HAVE to be able to row my own gears in it

Re: Manual Transmission on production car?

They need to offer both on this car, but I can understand why on the Charger since it is more of a family flier than a muscle car or sport compact like the previous models were.

Re: Manual Transmission on production car?

The only option I got in my GTO when I bought it was a $695 6-speed manual transmission (that's right - I actually paid extra for a stick). That should tell you how bad I want one.

Maybe you are saying that "Dodge" doesn't have an auto strong enough to withstand the hp.

I want a 6 speed in this new Challeneger just to enjoy the car, & jam-gears, etc.

I'll be VERY DISAPPOINTED if they don't offer a PISTOL GRIP SHIFTER!!

Re: Manual Transmission on production car?

No manual tranny = No sale!

I won't buy the challenger if it doesn't have a manual tranny.

My 300C SRT-8 has the 6.1 and the 5 speed Autostick. It would be pointless to buy another car with the same drivetrain.

If they offer a 6.4 and the 6 speed manual tranny I will buy it regardless of price!

Re: Manual Transmission on production car?

My guess is that the 6 will be allowed with the hemi versions of the car and maybe if they slammed the v10 in this baby as a specialty. If you want it with the 6 banger you may have to order it that way and pay for it. And yes an automatic is much more consistent than a stick unless your dang good ;O)
took some of the people i raced against 2 years to figure out i had a 4 spd in my car ... for some reason it always sounded like an automatic going down the track . Grin. the first time i actually took my chally to the track was on a street racing day for a radio station. I had f78 14s for tires . I never caught traction till halfway thru second gear . Ran 16.01 four times in a row @92 mph. Slick s and a little twinking took it down to 13s. It was a stock compression 318 with 340 heads 650 double pumper on an edelbrock. Anxious to see if i still got what it takes on the race track when this baby comes out. With a Manual Transmission. As an after thought the 6 speed in combination with the MDS may keep various models from having a gas guzzler tax.

I have seen initial reports that DCX will only offer the 6-speed manual in the SRT model. That, however, does not make any sense. It's my guess that DCX will offer both the 6-speed manual and the autostick (like the SRT Charger).

In regard to the body shape, DCX has advised that the production version will be almost identical to the concept car. The only thing that they may tweak is the fender areas.
