General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
That is pretty funnny, you want to delete the 5 lb radio for "Performance", but wont give up the 100 LB AC.
The whole point was that, at least in my book, cars are made to drive. And the new cars have WAY too much razzmatazz crap on them. I don't care if my seats are heated, my cupholders are lighted, or I have a 350-watt stereo. None of those have any value to me.

I agree. I like a/c and a radio. That's why I love my srt-4. I turn on my own headlights and windshield wipers. Manual seats. I also like the manual rolll up windows in the back. Sometimes I'll get in the back and roll the windows down and up just to remember what it was like when I was a kid.
I hope dodge stays a little retro with the new challenger or atleast offer a stripped down version.
I doubt if you will see a stripped-down model. The Challenger will probably come fully equipped, like the Charger, with "option groups" available to make it more luxurious (and more profitable).
I guess I have a problem with a performance car being "luxurious". I always picture Ricardo Montalban pitching cutlass supremes and such when I think of luxurious.
I think it would be really cool to have the challenger with all the modern performance advantages but without the "blonde star" and auto power everthing.
Hmmmm, think about it. The new challenger with the latest and greatest mechanical hi-performance technology but all the other stuff is still in the 70's. Manual windows, mirrors, seats etc. Talk about a mind freak!

So what are the most likely events that they would announce a price? I'm guessing there is usually a car show or something in the fall that we can expect to hear something about the car.

I wouldn't expect an official pricing announcement until the vehicle is unveiled in February, and even then it may be preliminary. Any numbers you see out there now are nothing more than guesses. "Firm" pricing on vehicles is typically not announced until very close to the start of production, and sometimes even a little after that.
As we know, the official intro is February 6, 2008. Actual production is set for April 21, 2008. Should reach dealers around May-June 2008. The SRT Challengers will all be similar to the concept car (i.e., Hemi-orange, 6.1 liter, and hood stripes).
They will be built on the same Brampton production line as the 300, Charger, and Magnum. A price of about $31,000 is expected.
The 2009 Challenger will start production in July 2008 and come in SXT (3.5 liter engine), R/T and SRT models.
The new variable cam timing 5.7 engine will be in the R/T (more hp and better mileage- no gas guzzler tax).
The transmissions in 2009 in the R/T and SRT will be the 5 speed auto (W5A580) and the 6 speed manual (TREMEC).
The wheels will be 17" and 18" for the SXT and 20" for the R/T and SRT.
Functional hood scoop, keyless ignition, and Boston Acoustics audio will be available.
There will be no spare tire (only a repair kit).
The SRT will have a chrome gas access door.
The SRT will have an RCD (Reconfigurable) Display- digital speedo, 1/8 and 1/4 mile timer, acceleration time and speed, 0-60 mph, braking distance, lateral and longitudinal g-force).
Also a worker in the Brampton factory has been quoted as saying, "A couple of suprises left, nothing too extreme."
The 2010 model will start production in July 2009- with convertibles starting in early 2009. A new 6.4 liter High Output SRT8 option will be available.
The 2011 Challenger will include the 4.0 liter Phoenix engine instead of the 3.5 liter.
That's a much of rumors guys, but many of them make sense and confirm what we have been hearing.
