Wink Re: More Rumors

There is a lot of misinformation out there- including newspapers about the Challenger.

In the June 20, 2007 issue of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the following statement appeared in an article entitled, "Mid-Year New Car & Truck Buyers Guide"

...And we all know what is coming next from Dodge- the Challenger! Yes, in fall, 2008, the production version of Dodge's reborn pony car will hit the pavement for the first time, and you can expect lots of hoopla over this one."

As we all know, the Challenger will be in production by March 2008. This just goes to show you that we in this forum know more than the media.

Re: More Rumors

Jeep is coming out with an all-new 2nd generation 5.7L MDS Hemi for the 2009 model year. The new Hemi will feature Variable Valve Timing technology and other new advancements, resulting in notable gains in fuel efficiency, refinement, power and torque. Specifications will not be announced until sometime next year. The new 5.7 will be Standard on the 2009 Grand Cherokee and Commander Overland models, and will be optional on the Limited models.
The second all-new Hemi engine will be a 6.4L powerhouse that will supposedly put out more than 500 hp. While not officially announced, the new engine is slated for 2009-2010 SRT8 models of the Grand Cherokee, Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger, the new Dodge Challenger, and one or two other Chrysler/Dodge vehicles.

As I previously posted, the Jeep article is supported by the following platform code listing (on allpar.com), which has the SRT8 as a 2009 model:
LC- Challenger (LC22) (2008-up)
LC- Challenger SRT8 (LC22) (2009-up)
LD- Challenger (2nd gen)

It looks like anyone who wants a 6.4 will have to wait for the 2009 model.

Re: More Rumors

Does this affect everyone's buying decision who wanted an SRT?

If you buy a 6.1 in 2008 and the 6.4 comes out in early 2009, will you be satisfied or wish you had waited?

I am willing to wait, but alot will depend on the price. If the 6.4 SRT is around $50K, I will buy a 6.1.

Re: More Rumors

I am going to wait for the SRT and I don't really care what the price is. I have been saving since I saw the car get the green light for production and I am not backing out yet. Bring on the SRT baby....

The question is will you buy a 6.1 SRT in 2008, or wait for a 6.4 SRT in 2009.

You may be paying a huge mark-up to have one of the first SRT Challengers on the block but may reget it when the 500 hp versions arrive in 2009.

Re: More Rumors

Another rumor...

On the chargerforums.com web site, someone posted "insider" information (Chrysler employee) that 1,500 SRT Challengers will be built in 2008.

Re: More Rumors

That rumor leads me to believe that there won't be an SRT version for the 2008 model year. This follows the precedent they've already set, with SRT models following a year or two after a brand new production vehicle.

Personally, I would wait a year before buying the vehicle anyway. Sure, there's something to be said about being one of the first. And thanks to computer design and more intense testing, first-year "gremlins" aren't nearly what they used to be. But I prefer safe over sorry and like my recalls being few and far between!

Re: More Rumors

I am actually in Japan right now until 2010 so I will be waiting till around sometime in 2009 to purchase my Challenger and so yes I will be waiting till 2009 to get the 6.4L..Also this way I will know that I will be getting c car that has most of the kinks and bugs worked out of it so it will be a low chance for there to be a recall.
