Talking Re: More Rumors

[quote=Noid]This sounds like a gift from the car gods. This option would worth waiting another year for me. But it would suck if the didn't have the option on the SRT version. In a decision between better gas mileage and better performance... If I wanted the best gas mileage I'd be in a prius.

I don't care about gas mileage either since my Challenger will not be my primary ride.

However, the 6.1 in its present 425 hp form is an awesome engine. If we can buy a 435 hp vesion with MSD, we will save $$$ over the 6.4 based on a lower MSRP and no $2,100 gas guzzler tax!! (Note- did you know that the Covette Z06 is not subject to the tax? If the GM engineers can do it, so can Chrysler and the SRT boys).

Re: More Rumors

There are some SRT8 Plum Crazy Chargers coming out with MSD on the stickers. Nobody has confirmed if they actually have MSD or if it is just a misprint, but it will be interesting to wait and see.

It is probably a misprint. The window sticker on the SRT still said 14/20 mpg. What would be the point of installing MDS with no improvement in gas mileage?

It was reported, however, that Dodge has resolved the cam problem with the SRT and will have a 6.1 MDS system in the 2009 model. Hopefully, this will get around the $2,100 gas guzzler tax! I would guess that it would be put in the R/T. The SRT will have the 6.4.

Pay attention to next month's Woodward Cruise. The SRT egineers in the last chat session hinted that we will see a Challenger with a 6.4 production Hemi.

Re: More Rumors

I have heard a rumor that MDS for the 6.1 is still in testing and will not appear on this engine until 2010.

This is bad news for anyone hoping to avoid the dreaded $2,100 gas guzzler tax for 2008 or 2009 models.

Re: More Rumors

In a few weeks (August) the Woodward Cruise will take place.

Several months ago, during an SRT chat session, one of the SRT engineers stated that we should pay attention to the Cruise. He implied that we will see a production 6.4 Hemi Challenger roaming the streets!

Re: More Rumors

On another site, a poster stated that he received a brochure in the mail from Chrysler stating that the Challenger is not being released until 2009. If this is true, I think that it means the Challenger will be released in late spring 2008 as a 2009 model.

I received the same thing. All it is, is a picture of a Challenger in a time line to show it is a future car. The fact that it was planted around the year 2009, to me, meant nothing and I never had any worry looking at it. In fact, I cut out the little picture of the Challenger so I can carry around a little picture in my wallet to show everyone "my future baby."
