I did a search on this but only saw a couple of threads that didn't have much to offer. I have seen plenty of guys with the 5.7 that have 100K or more miles on their challengers. Now that the 392 has been around a few years, I wanted to see how many people have racked up some higher mileage on that motor. List your miles and how reliable the car (especially the motor) has been. I have been prone to trade cars often, but I am getting a little older now and need to slow down on that. I plan on keeping my new scat pack for a long time and just wanted to know if the 392 is shaping up to be as reliable as the 5.7.
That is encouraging but people generally drive trucks differently than they do performance cars. I am still curious if we have any people on here with 392's in their challengers racking up some miles.
I had 77,880 miles on my 2011 when I traded it in Friday. When I bought it, it was at 40k. It was a daily driver and a 6spd. Throughout my ownership of that car it gave me no real problems.
About 2 days after I drove it off the lot, the alternator died. $870 repair, thankfully covered by the dealers limited 3 month warranty, backed by the extended warranty I purchased. Only other issue was the smart glass stuck cycling that drained my battery. A $300 repair that again was covered by warranty.
These 392s are solid as hell, I mean what the hell do people think SRT stands for?! These are track ready cars ready to be abused fresh out the factory, racking up miles won't hurt anything, just keep in mind that you have to pay a premium when said parts break down. But experience says it'll be awhile. I'm hoping my new to me srt will last me forever.
