My Billet/Radar Red 392 Review & Lots Of Pics
I've owned every SRT8 except the Viper, I'll post some pics of those later, I have an 02 WS6 w/ over 40K in this car only 5000 miles it's in a storage garage, I've owned 2 new 06 GTO's, and 3 other WS6 TA's...and a few others I regret owning...
So I've got some seat time & ownership experience in a variety of HI PRO cars...
This Challenger really puts a smile on my face, 3 people and the post man stopped by my house today alone just to look at this car, while I was waxing the wheels, it is amazing how it garners people attention...5 years after being in production...
I'm sure you'll agree the red does a great job of breaking up the black interior, the quality is top notch, fit, seams, gaps, finish and detail 100% perfect I cannot find a flaw anywhere...
The shifter is crisp, throws are short and precise, takes 2 hands to get it in reverse but it will loosen up over time, I installed the skip-shift eliminator at the dealer...
This one had 0-miles .9 tenths on the clock, dealer said they have never seen a new car ever with 0 miles, I took a picture, I was there when it came off the transport truck, I'm the only one who has drivin it starting from zero miles-pretty amazing...
The 6 speed is a "pure-drivetrain" no TQ management to deal with, or cylinder deactivation, and it puts the automatic to shame as far as how you can fully exploit and experience the Hemi 392, at 60 MPH drop it into 4th and this thing will sling-shot you to 100 MPH so quickly it's breath taking...with refinement and smoothness and that 392 HEMI growel that no other car can match out there...
Invest in a GOOD radar detector, don't skimp on a cheapie...your gonna need it! I have the Valentine-1 mounted under my mirror 360' full un-obstructed radius for tracking those incoming bogies...
The 6-speed is very easy to drive, easier than you may think, in fact the car itself is easy to drive, steering razor sharp, it does what you tell it to do, it does not drive like a larger car, visibility is terrific, I can see everything no problem, and it's easy to find a driving position that is "just-right" I'm only 5'8" 165lbs and this car does not intimidate due to it's size, it's not as big and cumbersome as the auto magazine critics (these *****s all like German cars anyway) make it out to be. Remember this Challey only weighs @ 100lbs more than the Camaro. My shipping manifest shows 4119lbs w/8 gallons of gas.
Case in point, I got corraled in downtown Nashville last Sunday going to the international auto show, vetrans day parade, the cops had every street blocked off, and downtown is under construction, so some areas were super tight, tight corners to turn, I had to zig-zag my way to the convention center, the parking garage is tight and the turnstall to pay in these areas are tight (as you all know) I had no problems, no different than driving a small car of any kind...like I said the Challenger is easy to drive...
Launch control is there, backup assist works great and shows the icon and distance in the EVIC and it chimes and turns the stereo down while activated (in reverse only), 2 mode active struts work great and in "sport mode" (sport icon in the EVIC) the struts are super tight and stiff, but not harsh, you feel every nuance of the road, the nose stays flatt when braking, steering is even sharper...it's a hell-ava-lotta fun...
I could load this beast up and go on vacation coast to coast me and the girlfriend for 2-weeks and live out of it with comfort, the ride on the HWY is on par with any high-end expensive car, so comfortable and sitting in the seats, heater on soft music, I could very easily fall asleep, it's that comfortable inside.
The Billet Silver was first offered in 2011 you will get a good comparison from my pics I took a couple of both my Challenger and my 2012 Jeep SRT (Bright Silver) sitting side by side in the pics...close up in the sun it shows a...deep metallic platnum hue "it pops and sparkles" but in the shade it's more of a subtle off greyish/silver...it's different for sure...but I like it! Easy to keep clean, hides imperfections and chips, and much cooler in the hot summer months.
Conclusion...It's worth every penny you pay for it, 23-25MPG HWY, buttoned down on the road, but light on it's feet when you ask it to perform quick manuvers, very well built, It gets a lot of stares from the public driving the also-ran average HTD's (Humanoid Transportation Device) boring/blan cars.
I know this is a long post, I've tried to bring a different perspective for you, and...I think the Challenger deserves an honorable review...it may go out of production..Sergio M. CHY/Fiat CEO drives the Challenger 392 as his daily driver...he could drive any car he wants...that speaks volumes right there...
It's a great car, I hope you get a chance to own one, I'm humbled and thankful for the chance...
I gotta tint the windows, I have a red velore dash cover coming from cover-king, I may put the T-Stipe in metallic burgundy or red on the hood and 2 stripes on the trunk only (I'm still 50/50 on that one).
I have 25-30 pics so look to the posts below for more attachments...
