General DiscussionThis section contains general discussion about the new Dodge Challenger concept. If it does not fit into a more specific area, it probably belongs in here. (Dodge Challenger General Discussion)
I can't understand what the big deal is about not having a B-pillar ? It should cut costs by not having a window regulator and motor and also cut down on weight. Making the car a little cheaper means more money for mods and with less weight it should run faster.
I persoanlly like the Challenger, With or Without the B Pillar. It doesent matter to me. Either way the car still looks sick. Those prototype pics look awasome as well. I was figuring that the production challenger would have the small windows that are able to be put down, Like in this pic:
But i guess that wont happen!
The photos that we have been viewing were posted on the Top Speed website.
They had this to say:
"The cars are are hand-built mules and they are meant to be near-identical recreations of the finished production vehicle. Notice the sheet on the front bumper bar, everything is "Manually Weld".
The 2008 Dodge Challenger will be unveiled at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, and will be nearly identical to the concept car unveiled last year at Detroit Auto Show."
I'll tell you what the big deal is about the B-pillar. Have you ever cruised in a E-body with all four windows down? Can't beat the feeling of the wind whipping through the open cabin. It's not a deal-breaker for me, but a huge disappointment. It has a big impact on the look of the car.
You are absolutely right cjcuda! There is a lot more *soft pony car buyers* looking at the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger models that will buy a lot for the looks and feelings than there is *hard core challenger buyers*! I think DCX is doing a big mistake with the addition of the B pillar...and will loose many sales!

X2, A little lighter, stiffer, and cheaper (not holding my breath on the last one ) plus one less thing to have to fix in 8-10 years.

Well, for one it interrupts the clean lines of the original Challenger/coupe . Secondly,it also eliminates a dangerous blind spot which the B-pillar exudes . As for cutting costs/price and cutting weight, how much extra weight would a regulator and a little motor add: 5-7 lbs. total ? That's nothing or negligible ! Besides, these are most likely Super Stock and or racing prototypes !!! Shhhhhhhhh
The B-Pillar sucks. If you ask me that is a significant departure from the concept. The first gen cars did not need it for "strength". If they could offer a hardtop in the early 70's, why not now. This is a disappointment and I think we should make our voice known on this issue - it may not be too late to force a change!
I also think the B pillar is a bad move. Comparing the SS car against a 1971 Challenger, the 71 looks so much cleaner.
