It all sort of started with the flathead fords didn't it,my father talks often about the days of glory for Ford.
Dads fav was the 32 coupe and he used to point out all the cars to me as a kid when we would take our trips out west what a neat thing to share with your kids Dad liked the old merc's as well.
I cant tell you how nice it was to have bumped into you guys on this thread what a treat I'm still reading some of the posts they are fantastic !
Got to love it when people can come together and share such memories as we have it is a special bond that not everyone understands and it lives on in just memories for some.We have an obligation to not let it fade away!
See you guys at the Mopar nationals next fall etch that in stone!

...as a kid, I remember going to Kentucky on trips to see my grandparents....lots of hills, mountains, winding roads and Burma Shave signs....he always gave me a thrill on the mountain roads, squealing the tires and speeding just enough to make it scary for a youngster....I remember him passing cars and hearing the big Ford engines howl...he let me sit on his lap and steer when I was just a few years old and let me drive his new 65 Ford cv around the neighborhood when I was 14 years old...we were car buddys, always had a common love of fast cars....he helped me buy my first car, a red/white 55 Chevy...it was a true hot rod....he helped me buy my first new car, a 68 GTO conv...we raced and romped together like we were both 16....he was having fun too...
...all thru my life I have been lucky enough to own nice cars, and I always took him a fast ride just like he did me when I was a kid...he absolutely loved to ride in my Vipers, even though he was old and almost completely blind....for his 80th birthday, I loaded him in my new black 03 Viper and we headed for his "homeland" in Kentucky which was our last trip, his health continued to fail.....being nearly blind, he could see very little, but could feel the speed and power of the highly modified V10....way down in the mountains of Kentucky he wanted me to open it up so he could feel the speed...we traveled several miles at well past 150mph....up the hills, down the hills, passing cars like they were in reverse....he was having a blast....after passing a group of 15-20 cars at a single blast I decided enough was enough and tucked back into the traffic at 55 mph....a few seconds later a state police car passed me at about 80-100mph....a few miles down the road he was sitting with his radar gun pointed at me....we were still doing 55.....the cop pulled out and followed us, stayed beside us, got in front of us, then back beside us....over and over for about 20 miles....a second police car joined in the escort along the way....they would look over at us and I'm not exactly a kid, they seemed confused....I had very very long hair then, mostly gray...my dad was 80 with long gray hair and we just looked like two old guys driving a Viper to the doctors office....when the cops would pull alongside our car, my dad would hump forward and lean on his cane to look really old....we finally lost our escort about 30 miles later down the road, they never stopped us, just looked and watched....I think I passed them at about 150-160 mph in a pack of cars, but we were gone so fast they couldn't clock us....then when they passed us, and followed us, they were confused because we looked like two nursing home escapees...my dad laughed about humping over his cane in the Viper until the day he passed away.....he later told me it was his favorite trip, ever....he was responsible for my love of fast cars

One thing I like to see here on this forum is all the young guys who know a damn good thing when they see it.
Isnt it refeshing to know not all young people drive rice and many now days have a new found appretitation for such heritage like what is incorperated into the new Challenger!
All you young guys listen up!
Its a great honor to have you carry on this torch for us decades into the future, do us proud!
Keep looking America is still out there!
Right on mike, rice is for eating not for driving
Im not sure what got me interested in american muscle in the first place, but im glad it happened.

Damn good big brother!
Let him know most Ferrari's need a total engine rebuild at every 15K and its not cheap...
Funny I remember my first ride in a 71 cuda my uncle put a 20 dollar bill on the dash and said if I could grab it it was mine then he hit the gas and I just sank into my seat and the g's wouldn't let me get close to that 20 dollar bill for all the tea in China.
yea Ferrari's are really hi maintenance, even the porsche's are. Thats one reason i will not fool with any of them.
I remember my grandfather telling me a similar story. Seems like his version was with a $1 bill and in 426 Charger. He said there wasnt a man strong enough to grab that dollar. He said he almost broke the seat from being thrown back lol.

I think everyone has heard that story. Honestly I've been thinking about it today and the first car that really had me excited about muscle cars was the 05 mustang. I was about to get my first new car and that's what I was set on. Well since my parents were helping me out, they had some say and Mom said no! She thought I would spin out all the time like she did with hers. She also said no manual trans for a first new car. Well I at least got my manual in the SRT4. I think that's why I bought the Shelby, I just had to have a mustang LOL.
Has anyone seen the new 2010 stang. I don't know if I like it yet.

Nice trip down memory lane... My father was also into cars, especially 49 Mercs! The year i was born, 1970, he bought a new Mercury Cyclone GT, which is sadly rusting away in Arkansas(he passed away a couple of years ago) while work in Iraq. I hope to get back and do something with the car, but Im afraid it is too far gone...
If nothing else, my dad gave me an appreciation for American hot rods!!!! I just wish he would have bought a 1970 Challenger instead of the Cyclone!!!!
