Oil in the bottom of my stock air box.

Was putting in the drop in K & N filter and noticed a ton of oil in the bottom of the air box tray. It looked like it was poured in there straight from the bottle. I have a Catch can on order I m assuming that this will help? Is this normal?

How many oil changes have been done, possibly overfilled? If its getting in there from the PCV then yes it will be captured in the canister. A ton really? Be more specific a table spoon a quart what?
Pull the stock air tube off and look in it to see if its soaked and look at the T.B. see if its oil soaked in there. You are the first to make this statement that ive seen. Identify the source I.E. path then the cause. Hopefully it isnt some reason that you are experiancing an abnormally high internal pressure.
Lastly whats your mileage?

Milage 5200 +/- The dealer did the last change for free. The car has had 2 total oil changes. When I looked in the bottom there is plastic grating the oil was almost to the top of that. Im gonna investigate a little bit more tonight as I cleaned the mess and drove the car a bit today. I was thinking though the can hooks up on the other side how is that gonna help on the pcv side?

The oil from the crankcase is fed through that line into your intake its supposed to be small enuff to be mixed with the fuel and burned in the cylinders, its possible that you may for a reason you have to find out that you are getting an abnormally high amount of oil throught the system and its saturated in the throttle body and running down into you air box when you shut down.
Pull the dip stick and check the level. Pull the tube off the intake and look around.

Looking at it with a brighter light than I had last night I can see where it ran down the box from the pcv hose. Since that hose runs right to the oil fill I wonder if that if an overfill is what happened.

Kool beans... sounds like they may have given you a little extra free oil at the stealership.
A catch can is also a good idea. They do work and its an inexpensive add on.
Good luck.

Happened to me with first oil change by the dealer. They apparently filled too fast? I had forgotten about it during the second oil change however I remembered while in the waiting room and mentioned it to the manager (they were almost finished with the car and were pulling it around). He appeared suprised however I told him I noticed it after returning home the first time. I told him they owed me an air filter because I had to replace it as it was oiled pretty severly. Approx 2-3 ounces inside the air box that I removed, washed and cleaned. (I had to verify everything under the hood as soon as I got home the first time). When the manager returned, he thanked me since they actually oiled the new filter again. He commented that they would be discussiung this issue with technicians the following morning. I changed my oil at 10 K myself and find it diffucult to believe that the filter gets oiled since the oil spout accepts oil fill really well however I did however remove the hose from the air box just in case while I filled. It is noted that the elevation of the hose is horizontal, thus contributing to overfill?
