Re: Personal Dilemma

I appreciate everyones advice. Don't get me wrong, I truly believe my priorities are relatively straight:

First off, it's not more that 9K in debt that needs to be paid off, and it's all low interest. Secondly, I agree that we never really know how long these cars will be out. Third, as much as I wish I could get the R/T, I know being a previous SRT and RT owner, I'll really want that extra HP and options(no disrespecting the R/T lovers). The way I see it, I pay our bills, we make good money, we invest in our future, and we invest in our childrens college funds. I believe I've covered all the basis to be a little selfish. So, I think if it takes a little more time to pay off the debt having that car payment, it might be worth it. It's just that, "you've got a family now, and you need to be 100% selfless," guilt trip running through my head that caused me to write the original message. Lastly, my Dad was selfless, and he was never happy because he never did anything for himself. I figured if I've got all the above covered, don't you think I deserve to think of myself too so I don't go down the same path of never enjoying life and the things I love? I welcome comments on the matter.

I actually have already forged ahead for the house with money(not to be spent on anything other than a house) saved. You see I'm in the Air Force, and I will be leaving cental CA probably going to CO in the next few years, which is where I'd like to buy a house once I get there. The market is way to crazy here to even think about it.

Re: Personal Dilemma

MoparRules,

I feel your pain. I have a beautiful 7 year old daughter that I would like to give the world to. I do believe you would have to be pretty cold not to feel a little guilty about spending some money on yourself.

Whenever I take my Road Runner out for a cruise the kid yells from the back seat "hey dad do a burnout". God I love that kid, she's the apple of my eye. Actually whenever I step on it she giggles maniacly from the back.

So, spend a little fun money on yourself if you can afford it. Your kids will also enjoy it and have awesome memories of daddys cool car.

Good luck,

Dennis

PS My dad was the same way as yours, and now that he is gone it bothers me more than you could imagine that he didn't do some things for himself.

Re: Personal Dilemma

Its natural to feel guilty... I have 3 kids and I want this car because it seats 5.. See? no more guilt.. HA!
My point....they can enjoy it with you...take it out for icecream, to dinner, the mall.. etc.,

Re: Personal Dilemma

Live the American dream......Charge it

Tim Curry from Rocky Horror picture had a song.

Well you can Telex my accountant
Call up Tele-Credit, too
I know they sent a monthly statement
But I never read it through
You say you won't accept my Visa
Or American Express
And the computer is suspicious
'Cause I've got no fixed address
Lady, that's a valid document
Check out the way I'm dressed
You know the way I'm feeling now
I'd take a lie-detector test

Paradise lost for capital gain
Traded for a ticket on the gravy train
I can amortize the cost with a minimum of pain
But I need it for a write off
Can't take another night off
You know I never carry change

I just Charge it
Where do I sign?
Charge it
Show me the dotted line
Charge It
I don't have the time to waste
Charge It
Oh don't mess around
Charge It
I've got to get downtown
'Cause I promised to deliver
To live up to the letter of the
Lord, I'm in a state of grace
[yeah baby angel]
Oh, oh!
Well, I've enjoyed us doing business
But I really must confess
This pompous attitute just isn't calculated to impress
There's a driver in my car outside
Who's easily distressed
Lady, when he's through with you
He's gonna leave your face a mess

Paradise lost for capital gain
Traded for a ticket on the gravy train
I can amortize the cost with a minimum of pain
But I need it for a write-off
Can't take another night off
You know I never carry change
I just Charge It
Where do I sign?
Charge It
Show me the dotted line
Charge It
I don't have the time to waste
Charge It...
[Oh, don't mess around]
Charge It
I've got to get downtown
'Cause I promised to deliver
To live up to the letter of the
Lord, I'm in a state of grace
[There's goes that [], babe]
[It's an equal opportunity there]

Charge It
Where do I sign?
Charge It
Show me the dotted line
Charge It
I don't have the time to waste
[Oh, don't mess around, babe]
[Don't mess around, babe]
Charge It
Where do I sign?
Charge It
Show me the dotted line
I don't have the time to
Charge It
[What is that?]
[A blue one, I don't have a blue one]
[A red one, I don't have a red one]
[Oh, just that gold one]
[I don't know, do they come in platinum?]
[whoa babe]
Where do I sign
[Maybe I can just make my mark]
[I don't know, do you read?]
[Are you literate, babe?]
[Are you numerate, babe?]
[Do you get laid, babe?]
[I don't carry green, it's just]
[It makes such a bulge in the pocket]
[You like the suit?]
[There's something in the piping in the back]
[I wanted to have changed]
[But my Spanish tailor didn't fly in last week]
[You know him? He's called Manuel]
[But he always makes the pocket so that if you put money in it]
[It looks so ugly]
[Oh, cash, baby]
[... cash anymore, babe]
[Oh, fine send for the manager]
[You can't be the manager]
[Are you kidding?]
[There's a serious problem in personnel]

BandMan Thanks. Thanks to everyone. It's nice to know there are so many dedicated Dad's out there with similar mindsets. I think I'm going through with it. I also know my kids will love it. My wife drove a 68 Mustang her Dad restored for her when she was in high school. She loved it and I know she also has muscle in her blood. I think we will all enjoy it. Thanks again everyone.
